I figured out my problem – silly mistake
I was not running a loop on the page – hence there was nothing to protect

I built 3 additional pages and for some reason this page now works correctly
I wish I could describe why, but i’m not exactly sure

I figured this out
All I had to do was add /index.php/%postname%/ to the custom structure
I’m not exactly sure why this is…but it solved the problem
can someone explain why this works?
