    Hi @mikes41720

Appreciate you adding the feedback to your feature request. Understand there’s likely many requests there, hopefully this case can raise the profile. And thanks for sharing the link to support, will contact there also.

Regarding the default of not optimising the staging site, and only optimising the live site, can you see how this presents problems in itself.

It means you can’t optimise the settings before it’s pushed live. So a new page would have to be set as draft on the production site or make sure it had a no-index tag on the live production page so it wasn’t indexed before you had a chance to optimise it.

Just trying to work out the best process for optimisation, given this issue, if we changed to settings of staging to default no SEO data settings. This never used to be an issue before mid-year last year, so it’s a new bug i wish could be fixed without workarounds on our side.

    Thanks,
    James

As explained in the original post both your solutions are “workarounds” and not very feasible with a frequently changing website.

Modifying the canonical output is also a “workaround” and a complex solution to understand and edit your api. Saying read it yourself and figure it out, is not a useful solution.

As a paying customer can i request you create a simpler solution for customers and add to your development queue, creating the functionality to edit the author pages canonical. What is the process for requesting new features?

    You mention:
Since the author page isn’t a regular post or page, there’s no option to edit it in the backend and access the advanced tab in the Yoast SEO meta box.

However the author page already has the following custom Yoast settings, so i believe you can create the requested functionality if you wished. It’s a pretty popular page with users and deserves the effort for an SEO tool.

    Yoast SEO settings
Title to use for Author page

Meta description to use for Author page

Do not allow search engines to show this author’s archives in search results.
    Disable SEO analysis
Removes the focus keyphrase section from the metabox and disables all SEO-related suggestions.

    Disable readability analysis
Removes the readability analysis section from the metabox and disables all readability-related suggestions.

    Many thanks

I have the same issue. There is no advanced tab on the user profile pages, and no canonical field to edit. Please develop and add this function.
