@orlaryemy Yes,it works. I might just mention that in my attempts to find a solution I have also installed WP Mail SMTP plugin but can’t say for sure that it made any difference. Good luck!
Problem solved:
I managed to solve the problem which was my email in WordPress settings was not of the same domain as the ‘sent from’ email address. It appears Gmail and Yahoo doesn’t like that. I changed the email and now all is working like a charm!

Yes, I am having the exact same problem. Gmail and Yahoo not receiving activation emails.
