It does seem to work as expected now. Not sure what changed.
Hi Alexandru,
Thank you for your response. However, after further testing, here’s what I found:
- The problem affects only anchor links (#section), even on the same domain. External links are behaving as expected, but internal anchor links open in a new tab, which they shouldn’t.
- Anchor links should never open in a new tab by default. They do not point to an external domain, so they should not be treated as external links. If your plugin applies
target="_blank"to all links indiscriminately, is there a way to exclude anchor links from this behavior?
I appreciate your help in resolving this. If you have specific debugging steps I should follow, please let me know. Otherwise, I’d appreciate confirmation on whether this is expected behavior from your plugin and if there’s a setting to adjust it.
But these are anchor links, with no other domain. And a new tab opens no matter which domain I’m on.

In reply to: [Enable Media Replace] After finding this plugin is not causing the issueI am having the same issue and have tried all four of the methods mentioned (except 2, since I don’t use Cloudflare):
1. empty the browser’s cache
2. if you you’re using Cloudflare, flush the caching there as well
3. check out this article on how to empty your WordPress’ cache
4. sometimes, we noticed that there is also a server-side cache active and none of the steps above will actually flush the cache. If you feel this could be your case, then please contact your hosting provider, show them the two URLs and ask them for their support. My hosting provider cleared the cache and said they could see images properly on their side. I still could not, so they said the caching issue might be with my ISP. So I disconnected the router for 15 minutes, but I am still having this issue.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
