Hi, peakstudios! That’s what I did. I started with the domain name as I had already furiously deleted the post from my Akismet and couldn’t discern which IPs were theirs from my site meter. But I will sure start blocking any IP number that gets through to Akismet!!!

ROFL at your suing suggestion. Boy, would I love to. But this guy’s actually in Russia, who are slower than even Europe and America with doing anything about those guys. The kick in the pants suggestion is an idea that has terrific merit, though! HAHAHAH

Welp, thanks to the “webalizer” provided by my site host, I found a reference to Adsoft Development. Since there are NO ads on my site, I looked them up. Apparently the guy who runs this site is a known guestbook and forum spammer (and now blog spammer, I imagine). Here is Spamhuntress’s page on him. If you look at the domains used by adsoft, you will see that some of those listed are used in the spam comments that come up when I do a search.

I asked my site host about this and they said that could block certain IPs and domains from my site. They directed me to CPanel’s “CPanel / IP Deny Manager” where I can block IPs, and for changing the .htaccess log directly, THIS SITE.

Using the list of domains provided by Spamhuntress, I blocked the domains using the htaccess file.

Akismet is very good about catching comments from this spammer, so I am already protected against any of their spam showing up on MY blog. What I am hoping is that my link will become useless to them (whatever benefit they get from it!) and will stop showing up in their forum spam!

If anyone has any other ideas, let me know!

Ewizac: I will look into WP-SpamFree! Thank you.

ryanhellyer: That does seem a very stupid way to get *one hit” on their site. However, I had a thought reading your and Ewizac’s post just now. Maybe they are thinking that anyone looking up anything posted in that thread (through a google search on RSS feeds for instance, as one of the posts linked was on what RSS feeds are), would also hit their site. And a google search does count as a hit on your site (at least it does with site meter) even if the searcher doesn’t actually go to your site. If so, it’s a cheap and dirty trick.

Oh, good. So sorry I wasn’t much help but glad you figured it out!

Thanks for that info, Ryanhellyer. I really don’t want to visit their home site(s). *ick* The linking makes it very difficult to search who is legitimately linking to my site. (search results)

I see that they put a bunch of porn/viagra/junk, then list a bunch of random sites which are unrelated to mine or the junk. It’s very weird.

(Sorry, Moderator. I am not a regular in the forums. atanone: I think “inspect element” is part of the “Firebug” extension.)

This is what is in the “script” tag. As you can see, it has the code for a whole page, starting with the “doc type” blobbity blah at the top and ending with the “/body” tag.

That isn’t there on the homepage version of the entry.I hope this helps!

atanone, I don’t know if this helps, but I used firefox’s “inspect element” where the video is supposed to be on the post page (not home page).

For some reason, a whole page code shows up, and I think this is what is messing up as it is not present in the post when it is on the “home” page.

Large chunk of code removed by moderator. Please use http://wordpress.pastebin.ca for this sort of thing.

Youngson: Hidden links can cause your site to be removed from google.

Legitimate site makers do not “hide” their affiliates.

Well, in my case, there was another program outside of wordpress running and I turned it off. Hopefully, my provider will give me the all-clear!

Hello! I just got a notice from my host a cron job is causing a lot of “high load”.. I have several self-hosted WP blogs on my site.

Plugins are Akismet and feedburner for RSS.

I use my feed with “widgetbox” and feedburner’s widgets.

    Anyone got any ideas?

Having just discovered that this non-security-hole has been exploited on my site, I believe the original poster was right in his concerns.

When I started getting hits on my WP-managed site for viagra, program cracks, hacks and keycodes for html files in the wp-uploads folder, I started checking around then internet to figure out what was wrong.

I would like to remind the poster above me that WP is supposed to be a blogging program that the non-computer saavy can use. It’s not a matter of learning how to drive. I know how to drive. I just don’t know how to fix a car. I’m a mom with 2 kids experiencing car trouble.. I don’t have time or energy to learn auto mechanics.

Click here for a portion of the screenshot of a google search of my page. The html pages listed were most definitely not put there by me. I do know how to change permissions, and THINK I understand what the various settings mean.

Because I don’t really understand how this happened, even after reading all of the above, nor do I understand the “fixes” presented, I have completely wiped my site and started over. I use WP on another site, though, which was not affected. I will make sure my folders are all 755. When I have a permissions problem, I’ll change the permissions for my specific folder to something more lenient, then right back when I’m done.

If anyone needs to take a look at those pages from the image referenced above, google still has them cached. I imagine a google search of “wp-upload” and one of the unsavory products will get you a live verion of that kind of thing.

Hopefully, one of you more knowledgeable folk will be able to figure out what’s going on and help folks like me.

Was this ever determined? I have the same question.
