Thanks so much for the reply wfasa! And quickly I might add 🙂

I will check on the server side caching but am not aware of anything but will dig. I will turn all plugins and themes off and bring them back one by one. And if I figure out the offending combinations, I will post it here.

WordFence is an amazing plugin so I would like to get back to using it, and hopefully move over to the premium version for our club.

    Cheers,

I have gone through the C-Panel to use php admin to delete the WordFence entries,

Used file manager to delete (modify) the files in the public-html folder (.htaccess. user.ini and wordfence.php program and delete the WordFence plugin.

    BUT

It is putting code somewhere that I can’t figure out and is not in the notes from what they give. Or we would both be ok as this is the ‘normal’ way to delete a plugin. It appears WordFence is much more pervasive than other plugins.

I am hopeful someone will chime in who has knowledge of the overall WordFence insertions so that we can truly fix both of our implementations and be a bit of a guide for others in the future. It is a good plugin in that it does what is purports to do, but when it keeps out the admins of the site, it is not useful.

BKT – same issue on my end. Do you see anything outside of the list that I showed above which we might try?
What have you done on your side?

I have the exact same issue! I posted what I had tried (quite extensive) but below is what I have tried.
    – remove plugin via ftp
    – removed all WordFence references in database wp_wf***
    – put generic .htaccess file back in
    – deleted user.ini (actually bak file)
    – deleted wordfence.php file in public_html
    – deleted cache locally on browsers. Tried with Chrome, Firefox and Edge
Could get back in to my admin portion of wordpress but cannot access the public facing side – keeps coming back with the error of Access Blocking.
    Then I did the following:
    – reinstalled WordFence
    – disabled firewall
    – disabled all blocking
    – disabled all security features
Still did not work – keep getting Access Blocking.
Then I downloaded plugin WordFence assistant
    – stopped all WordFence services with the assistant and your guide

    Still getting “access blocking”

(hit the button twice – apologies) 🙂

I am having the same problem with my WordPress installation.

I have WordPress update the core automatically. It is on WP7.2.2.

Newest version of WordFence. When the WP site updated, the WordFence plugin stopped working and locked me out of admin screens.

I have done the following but still get the “Access Blocked” screen and does not accept by email (even though I am the admin of the site) and the email is registered

    Here is what I did:
    – remove plugin via ftp
    – removed all WordFence references in database wp_wf***
    – put generic .htaccess file back in
    – deleted user.ini (actually bak file)
    – deleted wordfence.php file in public_html
    – deleted cache locally on browsers. Tried with Chrome, Firefox and Edge
Could get back in to my admin portion of wordpress but cannot access the public facing side – keeps coming back with the error of Access Blocking.

    Then I did the following:
    – reinstalled WordFence
    – disabled firewall
    – disabled all blocking
    – disabled all security features
Still did not work – keep getting Access Blocking.

Then I downloaded plugin WordFence assistant
    – stopped all WordFence services with the assistant and your guide

    Still getting “access blocking”

Really don’t want to reinstall WordPress (even though our site is backed up regularly).

And also want to understand why and how it keeps blocking me. Haven’t tried it with other types of users but suspect they will face the same situation.

I can provide you with screen shots but they seem like they are generated by WordFence. Even if it has been completed disabled.

    Thanks in advance.

    James
