Hi,
I have tested it with 6.9 and a bunch of popular WordPress themes (some default WordPress themes, GeneratePress, Storefront etc.) and had no issues with either. So it must be something more theme specific. Let me know what theme you are using and I’ll add it to our ToDo to check 🙂

It might not load the custom sidebars in the customizer preview, so you will need to edit the CSS and preview a live page instead.

Normally if you are logged in as an admin you should see the normal website, even if Maintenance is enabled. But some aggressive caches might show the Maintenance page for admins as well so you might want to disable any cache plugins/services if you are having issues while Maintenance is enabled.
OK, but at the moment the tel: link seems to work perfectly fine and opens the phone app with the phone number set correctly. So I don’t actually see any problem with it as it is. The attributes don’t really matter in this case and are ignored anyway.

For “tel”, you do have a point, we’ll exclude it by default in one of the next updates. In the meantime you can just enter “tel” on a separate line in the Exceptions -> Exclude external links by URL box.
As for extra values for the rel attributes like “me”, you can set them manually in the link HTML as I doubt you would need that added globally.

Unfortunately we’re unable to fully support Safari-specific issues. Safari is the only major browser that cannot be tested or debugged on Linux/Windows, and Apple doesn’t offer any official tools for cross-platform testing. So unless it shows up in Chrome as well we might not see it.

Yes, that is how it should work so I’m not sure what’s wrong. Maybe it’s cache? Try clearing any cache you have after changing settings.
If that does not help, please copy/paste the technical info in the plugin’s support tab so I can have a look at your settings.
We do have it on our ToDo list but I doubt it will be available by the end of the year, sorry 🙁
