Something weird happens: I created a staging site, and that one doesn’t exhibit the same problem. I’m lost!

In reply to: [Independent Analytics - WordPress Analytics Plugin] Facebook bots – againI use both Cloudflare and Solid Security. FB hits do not always come from the same geographic origin, but the origin and the IP address stay the same during each spike.
I have installed Matomo today to check its behavior. I have posted a private post on FB with a link to a WP post. Matomo shows 1 page and 1 visit from FB, 0″. IA shows 21 pages and 7 visits, 1″, for the same events. The address was a legit FB IPv6.

Meta’s docs expressly mentions that the bot is allowed to bypass robots.txt, and for that, it pretends being another user agent (in fact Mozilla). I checked the IP address to be sure.
My website is a small one, a dozen visitors a day, so this completely messes up my stats. Too bad 🙁

For example, I posted a link to one of my posts on Wednesday. Independent Analytics shows 22 visitors and 55 views at that time for this post (for an average duration of 3″), where Google shows 3 visitors and 3 views.
I definitely thinks there is something wrong. And I already use Solid Security and Cloudflare, so these bots shouldn’t appear.

I know the way Optimole counts. I don’t have data concerning User Agents, but fact is that during 08/24, Optimole counted 477 visitors, while the total number of requests on this very same day was… 478.
Typical pages on my site match between 70 and 120 requests, analytics say 4 pages were visited on this day. If I do the maths, this makes a minimum of 280 requests for the regular visits. Maximum of “visitors” (Optimole definition) cannot be superior to 478-280+4 = 202, NOT 477.

that was a weird one. I didn’t insert ay block manually, so I followed your advice and disabled automatic insertion. I the re-enabled it, and the problem was gone.
