Just as an aside, you wrote

This is either your Avatar or the Blogs Site-Icon, so you can change that using WordPress core functionalities. https://ww.wp.xz.cn/documentation/article/create-a-favicon/#wordpress-version-4-3-or-later

I have just spent an hour and a half trying to make this work and it doesn’t. It lets me import an icon but then refuses to use it. It brings up a screen where I am supposed to crop it but it is already cropped to the size I want, and in any case there are no grab handles or anything that would allow cropping. The previews at the right side don’t work and if I just click “crop image” without changing anything it tells me “There has been an error cropping your image” and just refuses to accept the image, though it displays it just fine (so it is not that it was uploaded incorrectly). And the image is exactly 512×512 pixels so that’s not the problem. I don’t have the time or inclination to mess with is so can you please just give an option to make that freaking “W” go away?

We mention it in the Lightbox, is that too late?

I assume by “Lightbox” you mean the box that pops up after someone clicks the Follow button, but in any case, yes that’s too late, because the visible block still gives users no indication of where they are following – they could be thinking the are following on Facebook or something.

As for the icon, I really wish there was a way to use the Mastodon icon, again so that it’s unambiguous where you are following, or to simply disable the icon display altogether. Or, to at least use a much smaller icon, maybe about half the size of what’s being shown now.

Thanks for looking into the “@” prefix issue!
