Right now my Mastodon account is on a private server that has 4 CPUs and 8 GB of ram. (I have 37,000 followers on Mastodon and a busy feed.)
I do my WordPress hosting on BlueHost and I have unlimited storage, so the storage won’t be a problem.
Will I have issues with speed or functionality on a WordPress site if my feed gets busier?
After I move everything to a WordPress site, will there be a plugin that will allow me to back up the entire site so I can restore if necessary?

I didn’t find the plugin. I don’t know why you didn’t see it before.
So if I understand what you are saying: Right now, you think the follow problem is with the plugin and Mastodon, but not my website. Right?
So all I can do is wait for that to be solved (if I understand what you are saying.)

(1) For the lawanalysis website, there are no plugins other than ActivityPub and Webfinger. We own the domain name so we set it up just to test Activity Pub wasn’t working on my website.
(2) Does it matter that the lawanalysis is https://www.lawanalysis.org (with an “s” after http?) could that be why you couldn’t access it?
(3) There is no author profile page. I don’t have one. So that might be why you were redirected. I have an author profile for responding to comments. So that might be why you were redirected.
(4) Yes, your screenshot is exactly what mine looks like.
(5) There is no author page. I have a bio page, but I don’t think that’s what you mean. I am an administrator.
But it doesn’t sound like any of these things are the problem.
It’s strange that lawanalysis doesn’t work either without any plugins.
Let me know if you want me to try anything else on my main website, or Lawanalysis which has no other plugins.

In reply to: [ActivityPub] When I try to follow I get a pending approval error messageAdding: Anyway, it sounds like our inability to follow the WordPress site from Mastodon and Libernet.de via activity pub has nothing to do with spikes in traffic. I only get spikes in traffic to my blog when I post something new. Right now I have very little activity on my website.
We also created a new WordPress site, http://www.lawanalysis.org, and installed Activity pub, which we can see from Mastodon as @[email protected]
But we cannot follow that one, either, so the problem does not seem to be with my personal website. (You can try it yourself.)
What next? Do we need to hire a consultant? I’d really like to get this to work.

In reply to: [ActivityPub] When I try to follow I get a pending approval error messageWe installed Super Cache and WP Rest Cache. It still doesn’t work. We tried to follow my blog from various Mastodon accounts and an account in Libranet.de, nothing. @teri@Terikanefield.com shows up in the search engines. We hit “follow.” It follows for about 10 seconds, then changes to “withdraw follow request” and it’s clear that it is no longer following.
We also installed Webfinger pre the instructions, and we get a weird error in the site health tab that looks like this:

We called the host provider, who told us that the problem is that we have a shared server. He suggested that we upgrade to a dedicated server. Do you think this is the solution? I have noticed that when I first post a link to my blog on Mastodon, people will get error messages. (I have about 35,000 followers on Mastodon). This doesn’t happen when I post to Twitter, where I have almost 200,000 followers. My Google analytics tells me that I get more traffic from Twitter. I assumed this was because my traffic via Mastodon is more international.
I will upgrade to a dedicated server if you think this will solve the problem.

It asks me if I want to withdraw my request. A few times I have withdrawn the request, and then clicked “follow” again. The same thing happens.
