I’m going to leave the wordpress firewall plugin in situ until I find another solution but at least I now know what the problem is.

Thanks for your help – it got me to finish checking all the plugins! It never occurred to me that it could be the firewall one. Apparently it does affect cron in some way so you were right there.

I think I have found the offending plugin. It is WordPress Firewall 2. When I de-activate it I am able to do things which before were defaulting to the home page.

I am a bit concerned about this though as the WordPress Firewall 2 was installed by my web designer to protect the blog. Do you know another one which may have a less destructive effect?

Actually I was also wondering about cron (although as a non programmer I am not really familiar with how it works). However I don’t think I have any cron plugins.

I am not sure why, when all my other blogs on my server work fine. Why should it be any different for this one? What could they do about it?

Does anyone know WHY I would be re-directed to the home page in these circumstances. Has anyone come across anything like this before?

I don’t see how that could be. I rent a server from my ISP and host other blogs there where this does not happen. Its not hosted with a cheap hosting company.

The blog has been online since 2006 and on this host for about a year. This problem has only started happening in the past few months. It was all right before.
