Thank you for your quick reply. My appearance tab doesn’t have a header option. It’s a wordpress version that was upgraded to 3.5.1. My appearance only has “themes” and “editor” as options — it seems like there were more options there before the upgrade.

Just for fun, I installed a new wordpress 3.5.1 in a test folder and the new version has “themes”, “widgets”, “menus”, “header”, “background”, “vortex options”….aha, there’s a clue.

In my upgraded wordpress, I haven’t activated the Vortex theme because I didn’t want to completely trash my site until I had tested a few things out. I’m assuming maybe these extra options come with the vortex install?

Btw, I tried your solution on the test blog and it worked! Thank You!

Thanks again Esmi! Can you direct me to a how-to on changing my theme? (I see a button for upgrading my current theme, but not changing.) I searched the forum but didn’t get very far — must not be typing in the correct keywords.

    Thanks,
    Anna

    Thanks for your response Esmi.

All of my plugins (only two — akismet and database backup) are currently deactivated.

I’ve hesitated to switch themes because I have so many non-blog pages on my website that are coded to my current theme and they’d all have to be re-done. Ouch. It’s a consideration though. Do themes get old or incompatible with new versions of wordpress?

I’ll try resetting the plugins folder too.

    Thanks,
    Anna

I’ve been fighting this problem for a week (after being moved to new servers) and finally came to the forums for an answer. Then I returned to my host (IPOWER — what a jug-screw) and they recommended that I upgrade my wordpress. I did that and apparently I’m one of the lucky ones (at least so far) — it worked for me. Just wanted to post here, so if anyone has my same problem, they might try the upgrade to wordpress.

My comments have suddenly stopped being forwarded to my e-mail. To the best of my knowledge, I haven’t “done” anything — i.e., upgraded wordpress. (Not even sure what version of wordpress I’m running.) I’m clueless.

I created a wordpress@mydomain account and set the e-mail to be forwarded. That didn’t work.

I reset my wordpress password and that e-mail DID appear in my inbox, so I’m pretty sure it’s not my server.

Help please! I’m afraid of breaking something since I don’t know what I’m doing!!!

    Thanks,
    Anna

Hmmm, hard to know what popular is — I’m assuming I’ll need a new database user in about the same amount of time or less as it took me to have this problem the first time around. I really appreciate all your help. If the WP-Cache works, could you also post where I might find instructions to do that? Also, I’ve had complaints about my site being slow to load since I created the new database user. Do you suppose that really caused the problem, or could the problems maybe be related to all the problems that ipowerweb is currently having? I haven’t been migrated to the new platform yet, if that has anything to do with it. Thanks again!

Wow! OliverC — Thank you SO much for posting this solution. I’ve been on hold waiting for ipower tech support for 1 1/2 hours. I found your solution and decided to give it a try — it worked! THANKS — now I can hang up on ipower!!!
