Kahil: Sorry to butt in; but, I was looking at your site and saw the “flash” effect on your photos. Before I go off searching the net for this plug-in, could I ask you post the link here if you don’t mind? Does “Lightbox” give you this effect too, or do you need more plug-ins?

    Please and thank you. 🙂

First, I tried to find the original post/ forum that linked me to the answer to my quest, but I can’t find it for the life of me… So, I’m posting here on a discussion that has already tried to answer the problem.

My problem was the same as the above people here, all suffering from lack of Category Indentation and want the quick fix. I tried in vain to get my category tag wp_list_cats to show the proper Parent/Child relationship in my side-bar for days, but only to stumble across a post that did fix the problem in foul swoop. I wish I could find that post again–it was good?

I figured that the problem was not in the use of the tag (wp_list_cats) nor the CSS I was using. I went through the ul, li, ul ul li, …. etc and messed with the “wp_list_cats (‘sort_column =name& optioncount=1&….. etc..” but to no avail. Then I went to the root of my problem which seems to have been some broken code in Word-Press itself. And regrettably, I cannot say that it is broken or intentionally left out because I never really looked and compared the two files, however it did show Parent / Child sub-categories in the side-bar when I reapplied (or uploaded) the fixed-template-functions-category.php. It was miraculously fixed. I even went back to my theme folder and CSS and replaced them back to their original code, the Parent / Child indentation was still working!

So, Like the original post said: You want Parent / Child indentation on your categories, try this first: Upload this file into your /root/ wp-includes / directory and replace the old file called: template-functions-category.php… then you’ll have indentation in your categories! This should also be in the Word Press Codex…. *hint* *hint*

macmanx, Thanks for your reply and helpful hits. I’m not knocking WordPress, a matter of fact, I will testify that it is one of the best blogging tools out there and that I find very user friendly. My reference to 2.1 was, implementing simple things like Jeff Bars’s extra filed approval system and Kitten’s Anti-SPAM tools were wonderful in WP2.1. I just implemented Bad-Behaviour, thinking that fighting them at the front-line: script to bot level my be the only answer.

As far as that weird comment SPAM goes, holy crap, that is currently accounting for 10 out of the 30 or so spammy comments in the last couple of hours! Trinidad and Russia seem to be the favourite hot spots for those IP address. I’m also running LINUX, with FireFox, like rscrawford, so I feel somewhat safe, but man…… sneaky & creepy

Well, here is something freaky: I was enjoying about 5 months of SPAM free blogging, when all of a sudden, WHAM! I get hit 35 comment and back-track spam in one go, then 4 hours later, 60 more, starting about 5 days ago. Stopping short of returning back to WordPress 2.1, I started implementing all my old Anti-SPAM Warfare armaments from WP2.1, and low and behold, I only slowed it down back down to 30 every 6 hours. Now, most of the “casino, poker” crap is hitting my older post, yet, how? I have turned off those comments and Back-Track on those posts, and yet, this garbage still pops up there? Now, fortunately, none of the for mentioned SPAM has hit the main page, and I’m moderating it. But how come these clever SPAMMERS reach through to the comments without verifying and being blacklisted, as I have done? Any ideas as to closing up this hole? My Email account is taking a beating right now…….. *help* :-/

OK, I found one of the problems: it appears that FireFox doesn’t like my PHP files on my website. Everyone esle’s I look at are just fine, just my own seem to be effected. The website is OK, WORDPRESS 1.5 is OK, Just my version of FireFox seesm to be wierd! I ussed another browser that I have that is LINUX based : it works fine! So, I wonder if anyone else has had a problems with FIRFOX 1.0.2 in the last while?

Realy…… Then it must be my browser? That is so weird. Ho Boy, I guess I better start looking on my machine to see if the problem is here.

    Thanks for your help guys!

KEWL. I can have my smilies back in 1.5! Thanks XeroCool. =)

TechGnome, let us know when you have it finished. If you have made improvements, I would like to have a look… =)~

Thanks TechGnome for updating. It is a great plugin. I would like to see it on a theme for 1.5, *hint* 😉

    davincim:

I believe so? I have FF at home and use IE on campus and those browsers seem to like the layout. I should point out that it uses both an image and a few lines of code in your CSS, pluss it’s a plugin. On my site, the images I used were done a little sloppy, but you can download really good images, in many different fonts from the link that are provided in the plugin. They do line up nice. The plugin checks the first letter in the beginning paragraph and substitutes with the proper image. Really quite cool.

Hi Jinsan, I believe that plugin your looking for is Drop Down Text. That is what I’m using on my site at the moment. I just checked the wiki here on WordPress and the link is broken. Techgnome was the creator who addapted it to WordPress. Yes, it works in 1.5 too!

Here’s the link for the plugin anyway, even though its broken.

    http://wiki.ww.wp.xz.cn/?pagename=Plugin&PHPSESSID=5432e6616254350a70077a2470bc6bb6

If you can’t find it on Tchgnome’s site, I can post the dropcaseletter.php file on my website for you, just give me a shout in my comments. I have the plugin running currently, if you want to see in action. I made the images myself.

Thanks guys. Let the upgrade begin…….

That’s what I did to get rid of the track back SPAM, erased the wp-backtrack.php file… 🙁 Nothing is secret anymore…. *sheesh* even though it was not getting through to the blog itself, it was having out of control SPAM on my E-mail! I’m starting to hate poker real back!

Thank macrmanx for that link. I’m still running with 1.2.1 until I get some more time to do the major upgrade.
