Thank you. Of course I can add a “shortcode” block in the Gutenberg editor and type in something like [caption]text[/caption]. But how do I get this linked to the image? Gutenberg editor does not provide a way to insert an image inside the caption shortcode.

Thank you for the quick answer. Sounds easy, but I don’t understand how to follow your advice. Maybe I am blind. When I add an image block, a kind of caption is automatically created by gutenberg, filled with the caption field from the media database. When I manually add a shortcode block instead, where I might use the [caption] shortcode, I cannot add an image inside this block.
