In reply to: Identifying theme options relevant to a problem using firebugcheers! don’t exactly follow that yet, but will take a copy of the pic, will be useful I once have put the different pieces of PHP in place in my head ..
i agree so far have been looking at providing websites for people (small businesses). I realise already I need to know photo, video, text editing skills before I even begin with WP. And then, clearly beside some amount of coding awareness there’s the hard task of being design savvy and able to assist clients in thinking about what image they want the site to project, as well as being able to being able to offer creative ideas in areas they hadn’t necessarily considered.
so all in all (and I don’t suggest this is even the beginning of the different skills/sub-skills needed) – the hard bit seems to be in knowing what broad abilities might be required – and then getting to grips with them.
But on the upside it seems a great creative role and is great fun providing a site that people love.
thanks, (and sorry, have just been sounding off a bit)!

In reply to: Identifying theme options relevant to a problem using firebugok, well, that’s interesting to hear. I’d understood Php was harder than css or html. I am vaguely familiar with the basics of both but have not had to use them in practice much, being able to do *most* things via the WP dash.
I’m not sure, perhaps the consensus among serious users or site designers is that all three are necessary to have any real control over what WP eventually produces.
thanks, again

In reply to: Identifying theme options relevant to a problem using firebugthat does help. yes I’ve been in that situation and had no idea how to implement the css change even though I got it working on chrome inspector quite easily.
perhaps the real answer is ‘understand Php’ a bit.. but it seems a lot of general learning to do a few small css tweaks. I’ll look at code inspector Digico – thanks for adding that.

In reply to: Identifying theme options relevant to a problem using firebugOK, thank you.
I tracked this down in the CSS and will put the tweaked line in a custom CSS file.
I suppose my original instinct was that it’s better to find the option within the theme (and mine is Avada, a premium theme with I think it’s fair to say, comprehensive settings).
But if done via a few lines of custom CSS it makes no difference to the load time or anything else I guess.
thanks for getting back to me

In reply to: [WooCommerce] Single product image distortingOK – yeah, well perhaps I’ll not try again. This time I appear to have gotten away with it (so far) and the site’s looking and functioning as we wanted it.
But I appreciate it’s a risk, potentially.
thanks, HTH –

In reply to: [WooCommerce] Single product image distortinghello
firstly, is remiss not to get back any earlier but I’ve been away for a bit. I do apologise as obviously you’ve been been making repeat efforts
to help here ..In brief, the error as it pops up in WP is as follows:
Your theme (Lyn child theme) contains outdated copies of some WooCommerce template files. These files may need updating to ensure they are compatible with the current version of WooCommerce. You can see which files are affected from the system status page. If in doubt, check with the author of the theme.
Following a link it provides, I eventually end up at WooCommerce page describing steps to take to update templates manually (my theme is not desinged to run WooCommerce nor declaring support, and so is not updating them itself):
https://docs.woothemes.com/document/fix-outdated-templates-woocommerce/Having reached this point however, I fall at the first step because no templates on my system appear to be reporting as outdated in my WooCommerce > System Status page.
(there seems to be no info provided on templates whatsoever, either to approve versions or report errors. I could send some screenshots perhaps, but I don’t believe I can do so in this forum)
As the steps instruct that you replace only the specific template files that are outdated, I can’t see that there’s much I can do. And in any case, I’m loathe to mess with anything as the website itself seems to be running fine and I’m hearing myself say ‘if it an’t broke don’t fix …’
So this brings me back to the original reason for posting really- am I running a unjustified security risk here, or can I (on my client’s behalf) relax.. ?
many thanks –
Tom

In reply to: [WooCommerce] Single product image distortinghello again
if I may, I realise I did still the original question to ask – does it matter much that my woocommerce templates are reporting as out of of date?
As we fixed the other issue the site itself is looking and working absolutely like a charm.. but should I be worried? (!)
as previously, am much obliged

In reply to: setting colour for a single menu itemsorry, lazy post.. must be tired from all night attempt to work out css..
i meant to mention that in my WP theme there’s an option for CSS class in the menu. so I’ve set this to ‘sale-nav’ hoping to make .sale-nav my selector.

In reply to: [WooCommerce] Single product image distortingno i’m very much obliged to you, thanks for helping. was just my ‘regen thumbnails’ attempt that wasn’t adding anything ..
btw my bad i was meant to be reporting my settings under woocommerce > settings > display / then under ‘product iamges’. they are:
Catalog images 300 x 300
Single product images 150 x 150
Product thumbnails 90 x 90‘hard crop’ is not enabled for any, and the lightbox feature is activated.

In reply to: [WooCommerce] Single product image distortingyeah.. well that didn’t help!

In reply to: [WooCommerce] Single product image distortingwell.. thanks yeah I see .. however I think we have several instances of images behaving as you’d want . e.g.
http://flourishnaturalbeauty.com.gridhosted.co.uk/product/olive-and-coconut-handcream/
here the original is not 1:1 … its 450 x 287
your tip on image size made me wonder if adjusting it down to a lower dimesion would help. I went for 70% of the original so it’s now 420 x 420. interestingly it now is not displaying any product image at all, though it is appearing in the thumnbails..
will just try regen thumbs again ..

In reply to: [WooCommerce] Single product image distortingyeah it is .. it’s 600 x 600 ..
I’ve just tried the above steps also. I didn’t empty my Chrome cache (should I?) but found the URL for the product image then downloaded with a new name, before deleting the image from the post, viewing it without any image, then reuploading the newly-named file. unfortunately.. no change. Could run regen thumbnails again at this point I guess.. and could empty chrome cache if you think worthwhile (is this just deleting temp files i think?)
