Dreamhost’s reply was vague:
I looked into the cause of your issue
and it seems your scripts have been getting automatically killed by our
Process Watcher script due to your sites going over the resource limits
on the shared server.
They take a blame-the-victim stance and wouldn’t answer my question of which plugin might be causing the spikes. My site is a mom and pop operation (me) so I turned off LSS and switched to a simpler plugin that just [omitted for security reasons]. The service interruptions stopped.
Just updated to 2.3.1 – saving checked-off options works now – thanks!
