I sent in the logs around 4 weeks ago, but have not received a response. Is there something else I should do? Did I miss the response somewhere?

The support add on was already set to capture 5 emails checks. Should I try setting this lower? I do have several logs from last April which were successfully generated when facing a similar problem.

Increasing PHP memory as well as maximum execution time for scripts both allowed some old posts through, but even after upping them to very high values (PHP memory: 512M for WordPress, 516M through host) the script is still having issues parsing through posts less than 5MB in size. In addition, doubling the memory allocation for PHP through WordPress did not appear to double the possible maximum post size.

Memory was increased in wp-config.PHP (where previously it had not been specified) whereas the host already allowed a maximum memory usage of 516M. Max_execution_time was increased from 30s to 360s and max_input_time was increased from 60s to 300s.

Postie appears to have completely ceased returning error messages, and no reports have been received by email at all.

It does appear to be linked to memory, as you suggested. Posts with a total image memory of 985kb are fine, but posts with 1.05mb are not, suggesting a hard line at 1mb. However, I checked, and the total memory allocation for the site still has several GB of data, and in addition much larger posts have been made successfully in the past. Did something change which would have added in this new limit? And if so, what should I do to remove it?

Edited in: Additionally, posts larger than 1mb are fine, as long as none of the images are over the limit individually. I am currently looking through previous posts to see if this limit was broken in the past, though as it is primarily a photography blog, I would be surprised if that was not the case. At least one test image sent earlier was 1.45mb and was successfully posted.
