I also encountered this problem when I used [ref][/ref], but when I changed back to (()), everything seems okay.

I get that. Maybe it would be nice to have a note in the settings that more clearly indicates that this option is needed to provide the formatted style for the Twitter in-line quotes?

Thank you! Perhaps the toggle “Mark Twitter links” should be on as default upon installation.
