Whilst I haven’t done this myself, there is documentation about. Try this link under the title Adding more SVGs https://kinsta.com/blog/twenty-seventeen-theme/ the file must be of svg format.

Sorry I wasn’t clear that I was specifically talking about the Twenty Seventeen theme which adds svg social icons to the footer. I’m trying to find a way to add them to different parts of the pages.
The social media plugins you linked to use standard images not the default theme svg icons.
