Well, it turns out that the wordpress theme we are using is the culprit (custom developed theme for our university). After disabling the theme, videojs worked as documented.
Do you have any suggestions for getting it to work with our custom theme?

Thanks for the typo check, I noticed that too and fixed it, but it still does not work.
