I contacted my hosting provider and asked about the message “Unable to create directory /www/vavalu.net/www/root/wordpress/wp-content/uploads/2007/05. Is its parent directory writable by the server?” which I was getting. They fixed something and I managed to import my posts with no further problems.
So try contacing your hosting provider – this worked with me.

We are obviously all having similar problem. I have just moved my blog and I want to import the posts and the rest of the things but all I receive as a message is “Unable to create directory /www/vavalu.net/www/root/wordpress/wp-content/uploads/2007/05. Is its parent directory writable by the server?”
Have anyone found a solution what shoul be done in this case? Should I contact my hosting provider or can I do something myself?
