In reply to: MSIE, WordPress and 3 columns?Thank you so much that worked great! I should have known better than to cut and paste from Word.
The site looks great in all browsers except for MSIE 8 Windows XP which is giving me some CSS formatting problems?

In reply to: Thumbnail links not working?Leave it to an artist to find the most complicated solution to the most simple problem. clicking “find URL” button worked like a champ. I feel like an idiot, but honestly I though I selected that button a dozen times and got nothing, and I don’t remember having to do that with the prior version, which is why I guess they call this a new version. Thanks for your help.
Wallking away sheepishly …

In reply to: Thumbnail links not working?I am not sure if this resolves it, but I found a work around. After checking again via FTP, I can see that the thumbnail image and the regular image are being made. Apparently these images are made during the upload and deposited into the appropriate year/month folder. I select alignment/thumbnail via the media dialog and then press insert into post.
This gives me the thumbnail next to my text in the visual tab. I then switch to the HTML tab and change alignleft to style=”float: left;(because the text wraps around the thumbnail better.) The next part of the code seems to be calling the thumbnail image and for a link it calls the same (smaller image) thus producing “no” link because the image is already visible. So I change the src of this second part to reflect the name of the full size image that is in that same folder.
When I test it I get my thumbnail, my text wrap, and my link to my full size image, and it all seems to work. WHY, the script does not do this to begin with is beyond me? I am a hack HTML coder at best (I draw little pictures for a living.)
If anybody can tell me why this might be doing this So I don’t have to hand code (alter) the script solution each time I place a picture It would be helpful.

In reply to: fatal error when uploading imagesHere is a follow up to the problem. I found a FAQ that detailed which files that were causing the fatal error. (Here). I did a search and sure enough these two files were both partial uploads. (you can tell by examining file size, side by side, in the FTP client. I use Transmit.) I re-uploaded the files and it seems to work fine now.
So bottom line: the advice given in the forum is spot on — make sure all the files are uploaded correctly. Of course there are hundreds of files to go through and this other guy knew exactly where to look and could have saved me 5 hours of trauma as I repeatedly tried to check each and every little file in the program.

In reply to: systematic image upload errorI have had simular problems with the viewer, Only I get the “fatal error” message in all the media tabs. I have tried it in Firefox, Safari, and Opera all with the same results. I have have spent Hours (and hours) going through this magic list of 8 and nothing corrects the baseline problem. I have noticed that the moderators are using the “topic closed” function a lot and then refering back to the magic 8 list.
I am not without fault, but I have double checked my steps a dozen times and so have a lot of other people with the same problem.
what chmod setting did you use for the uploads folder (just so I can check it on my own site?)

In reply to: fatal error when uploading imagesAfter spending the morning digging through the forum I found this:
It lists 8 things that can be done to address the problem. I have tried all 8. Spent many hours doing it. (re-uploading files, testing, turning things off, testing, clearing cash testing. Nothing works for me. My portfolio site is completely borked except for writing my complaints about this serious “feature enhancement.” How could this have made it through beta testing? Oh thats right, early adopters “we” are the unpaid beta testers.
