In reply to: WordPress from WordPress: import problemi hate to bother you time and again but you appear to be my only savior. Despite making hidden files visible, I could not locate .htaccess file in the “blog” folder. Then I tried to visit file manager through cPanel. There is only one .htaccess file in the blog’s parent directory named “public_html.” Should I edit this file with the new permalink script? ‘hope you will understand my difficulty.

In reply to: WordPress from WordPress: import problem‘Thanks for very quick response. I have noticed what you have mentioned. wp is unable to write new script as the file editing permissions have not been given. I am not able to write or give permission because I can not locate the file. Hence, I had made a request to let me know the location of .htaccess file.

In reply to: WordPress from WordPress: import problem‘Thanks for your pointer. It should solve my problem. Because, when I was setting permalink default, I was asked to replace script in .htaccess file.
Unfortunately, though this may sound silly, but I have not been able to locate any .haccess file on my server installation or even in extracted folder of wp 2.0.5 package. My m/c has windows xp os while my host has apache-php-mysql combination as I am required to use cPanel.
I tried to try index.php file, however, it does not have similar looking script to replace.I am not a tech expert but feel that I can generally follow logic of certain processes, particularly if they involve use of data bases. I am a novice in the use of php and apache, though.
I know, you can solve this in a jiffy but am I bothering you too much, especially during festive season?
In any case, my good wishes to you and your dear ones for a happy x-mas and New year!Forum: Installing WordPress

In reply to: WordPress from WordPress: import problemI am also able to see all the posts in the “Manage” panel. Also, open any of them for editing, viewing, etc.
I am sorry I am providing info at intervals instead of in one go. However, I felt more info should help you diagnose the problem fast.

In reply to: WordPress from WordPress: import problemI have been trying to import my free wordpress.com blog to hosted site I purchased from AN Hosting. While, importing I get the message that all of the 200 and odd posts have been imported successfully, when I go to view site, I find that only the recent page is displayed. All links to categories, archives, previous posts, etc result in 404 error. Earlier, I thought, it may be due to theme related issues, however, the problem persists on different themes. Could some one please help?
