Not sure if anyone responsible for the Boostrap theme has had a chance to look at this yet. But I’ve been working with the people responsible for the WP Easy Digital Download plugin (EDD plugin) and they asked me to try a different theme to help them isolate the issue.

I switched my theme in preview mode to the “Responsive” theme and the EDD plugin worked just fine. I have some more testing to do to make sure all is OK using the Responsive theme, but right now everything points to an issue with the Bootstrap theme and/or WP 3.5.1. and short codes on certain plugins not playing nice with each other.

For now, the simplest thing for me to resolve the issue is to abandon the Bootstrap theme and go with one of the more basic WP themes such as Responsive, etc.

I’d like to get the issues I’m encountering with Bootstrap and the EDD plugin and it’s short codes worked out, so let me know if someone working on the Bootstrap theme has some time to look into it.

    Thanks.

    Hi cyndimarie:

Nothing useful towards a fix yet. I even deleted EDD and re-installed the two plugins (EDD is one of them) that were giving trouble and still the same issues with the shortcodes not working properly and my EDD download page simply showing nothing.

I also started a thread on this issue over at the EDD trouble shooting forum. Maybe you might want to follow along on that thread as well as we try and fix this issue. I still think one reason for all the trouble is my Bootstrap theme and WP 3.5.1 are not playing nice together, but I have to cover all angles. I need to get this EDD working properly in the next day or so as it’s costing me money.

You can follow the other thread on the Easy Digital Download basic support forum here: https://easydigitaldownloads.com/support/topic/download-will-not-show-under-view-download/

Hopefully we’ll get this thing figure out soon.

Thank you for the reply jmjf. Appreciated.

I understand all you said, I’ve had problems with this Bootstrap theme during updates before (the Bootstrap menus stopped working after WP 3.5 update for example and several users had to point out the issue. That Boostrap update just before the holidays at the end of December was supposed to fix, but I still don’t like how the menus work on Bootstrap) so my confidence in the Bootstrap theme is not great.

And right when I started using Bootstrap something got completely corrupted on my previous install of the Bootstrap theme (media library got all messed up, pictures were not showing properly. No one had any solutions to fix on the forum) and I could not fix, so I had to re-build the entire site from scratch. I decided to give Bootstrap one more chance, but vowed any more problems with the theme and it was probably better use of my time to move to another theme (for example, I don’t see the frequency of updates on Bootstrap come by that I see on other themes. Can’t understand why that is). Things were going OK on my site for two months since the full re-build (second install of Bootstrap) until this last week.

I don’t need to uninstall all the plugins as a week ago everything on my site was perfect. I notice it’s always the offered solution to uninstall every plugin for some reason on these forums. But in this case I can’t see what un-installing all the plugins that worked fine a week ago will get me for the time spent. The only thing that I know that has changed in the last week or so is WP had a release to 3.5.1 and a couple of plugins had updates.

Now two plugins I’ve noticed short-code issues on. The 1 existing plugin that was working fine for months I noticed earlier this week started giving problems and not showing the short-code form properly.

The only reason I installed the Easy Digital Downloads was to see if the same issue short code issue happened and sure enough it did. Which leads me to deduce it’s either a Bootstrap theme issue and/or WP 3.5.1 issue or a combination of Bootstrap and WP 3.5.1 impacting my short codes.

I’ll wait and see if any other solutions come by to get the short-codes working again on my site. If I have to un-install all the plugins to get the short codes to work, I’m just going to go all the way and move to another theme and do everything once so I hopefully don’t have to encounter a major problem every few months. I have an old site that I have for years on the Suffusion theme and I never had an issue with it. Everything always just worked or if there was an issue, it was a simple configuration issue I could figure out on my own. On this site I just wanted to use a “responsive” theme as I know many people use smartphones and tablets. But now I’m second guessing that decision to go with these newer themes as they seem to have some issues.

I have notes into the the two makers of the plugins (the two plugins that I’ve noticed the short code issues) on their support forums to let them know the short codes on my site are not working and that I’m using WP 3.5.1 and the Bootstrap theme. Hopefully they can offer some fixes.

    Thanks for the help. Appreciated.

I noticed the official update for 2.0.1 update for WordPress Bootstrap theme came over today. I re-installed 2.0.1 again.

2.0.1 is still is not working how one would expect for the drop-down menus. Frustrating, as this should be basic functionality for a WordPress theme now.

Check the drop-down menus on http://valdaoresearch.com

The main page on the drop-down under “Blog Posts”, I can’t get to http://valdaoresearch.com/posts/ using the drop-down in the main navigation bar.

And since I went to the 2.0.1. Bootstrap theme, I can’t get to the page for my BuddyPress activity http://valdaoresearch.com/activity/ as it’s completely blank. This page worked fine with Bootstrap 2.0.0. and WP 3.5 before the upgrade to 2.0.1. I’ll leave it for now and try a few things, but if I can’t get 2.0.1 to work for my BuddyPress page, I’ll probably have to go back to Bootstrap 2.0.0.

Bootstrap 2.0.1. seems to have some issues that need to be fixed.

    Thanks.

I did not deactivate any of my plugins.

I don’t want to go messing with the plugins as they are all working fine with WP 3.5 and Bootstrap 2.0.0 except for the known dropdown menu issue.

I’ll wait until the full verification testing of Bootstrap 2.0.1 and WP 3.5 gets done before trying again. Then I’ll activate or download & activate Bootstrap 2.0.1 again or whatever the next fully verified version of Bootstrap with WP 3.5 turns out to be.

    Thanks for the help. Appreciated.

Thanks for the 2.0.1 theme update for WordPress Bootstrap.

I installed and activated Bootstrap 2.0.1 on my site. The install went OK, but the 2.0.1 did not work to fix the dropdown menu issue I’m seeing on my site under WP 3.5. I noticed a couple other navigation menu issues while running 2.0.1 of Bootstrap with WP 3.5(not sure if related to 2.0.1 specifically or it’s a combination of 2.0.1 and WP 3.5 or something else) that I did not like so I reverted back to the 2.0.0. version of the Bootstrap theme.

I’ll have to live with the known menu issues in 2.0.0 of Bootstrap along with WP 3.5 until the full verification testing between the 2.0.1 version of Bootstrap and WP 3.5 gets done.

    Thanks for the help.

I had to delete the previous problematic install of Bootstrap. Re-built the entire site from scratch. Could not figure out what the issue was. Decided to give Bootstrap one more chance and it’s been OK since the re-build, but I notice that I have not seen a theme update come by since WordPress 3.5 came out so I’m a bit worried about how this Bootstrap theme is maintained. We’ll see.

I’m having the same issue others have described with the Bootstrap for WordPress main and submenus.

Simply, the submenus don’t show up no matter what you do. I did not want to go back to WordPress 3.4.2 (and potentially mess create another issue with other parts of the site), so I’ve had to leave a few of my menu groups messed up as hopefully a patch to fix the WordPress Bootstrap menu issue will come by in the next day (this weekend while the traffic is low). Thanks.

I noticed that this new Bootstrap theme I’m using for this new blog actually creates multiple files in the upload folder when I load an image. Images that are duplicates of the original upload image, except they are different sizes. Maybe this entire “duplicate” image process is too complicated for WordPress’s own good and it’s getting confused between the original image (the one I want and that actually shows under the Edit Image view) and the different sized duplicates.

Anyhow, I’m going to keep at this until I figure out what’s going on as it continues to happen on every image file I upload. Very frustrating for such an everyday task such as uploading and pasting images in a page or post. Thanks for the help in advance. Appreciated.

I meant to type “”exact same issue I’m having” above in the first line. Sorry for the typo.

The issue that Mungobee describes is the extra same issue I’m having now with a WordPress install I started a week ago. The images upload, they show in the “edit view” under the Image Library, but outside of the “edit view” I can’t see the images. Just get that little square icon using Chrome and in Firefox it’s just a text tile of the image.

Very frustrating. Obviously there’s an issue with WordPress here with these images as it should be standard functionality. I’ve check the permissions on every applicable folder and they are all fine. I compared the permissions with another WordPress blog I’ve had for years for the same image folders and the permissions are all the same.

Any suggestions that anyone has other than saying “re-install WordPress” would be appreciated.

here’s the link to my site and you can see for yourself how all the images are showing.

I’d re-installed the Bootstrap theme, changed it to another theme and still the same issue with the images not showing. I believe it’s a WordPress application issue with some setting or configuration with regards to accessing my image files (don’t understand how this could happen, seems like this should be straightforward). Another suggestions anyone has to fix this would be appreciated. Thanks.

the strange thing is when i hit the edit, the edit image button under the media library the picture shows great, exactly as it should. Then when I close the edit view and it’s back to the funny icon again. Like something is blocking it. I check the permissions on the folder and files and they look good to me.

here’s the url in the edit image mode (this looks fine)

    http://valdaoresearch.com/wordpress/wp-admin/admin-ajax.php?action=imgedit-preview&_ajax_nonce=a04ecc48a9&postid=234&rand=96672

here’s the url to the file itself in the upload directory. It does not show properly for me in any browser
