I just reread your response and happened to gloss over the part where you described how to explicitly set something to allow. D’oh.
It is a bit counter-intuitive to not make explicit allow settings immediately obvious. Are there any plans to have triple-state checkboxes (unset, yes, no) instead of what’s currently there? If not, I may attempt to customise it myself (and just diff&merge every update).

Right, so I understand the plugin will walk a tree starting with user-specific and ending with everybody-default as it looks for access settings, but one place I’m confused is what is the point of that if you can’t (at least I don’t think from what I can tell) explicitly set a grant permission? Is it possible to have it so that for example “Category A” is denied access to a page, but “Category A Lifetime Member” is granted access in a hierarchy?
