I think it also has to do with the WooCommerce widgets. For example using 3 hand-picked in the same page will display me the same item 3 times.
I had to redesign the page to avoid such multiple instances and Product filter on the same page and I think it is working ok so far.
To conclude:
-it could be that the WooCommerce widgets is interfering with the plugin. When having on the same page, multiple WooCommerce widgets instances (eg. 3 times hand-picked shop items).
-to note that in edit page mode this looks as it is working ok.
