The example you’ve given only shows the title of the post e.g. “A weekend away in the countryside…”
I think what we’re after is for both the title and the excerpt to be displayed, for example:

In reply to: [Twenty Fourteen] 2014 Showing all posts on front pageI’m having the same problem. I only wish to display a certain number of posts, nothing at all, or static text below the featured post grid, as the page is far too long otherwise.
