I actually realized I could restore the site from a digital ocean back up — I don’t know what any of the words you said mean =( But I’m sure they would have worked. Thank you so much for your help!!!!!
I’ve updated successfully in the past, not sure what could have changed. On the Ubuntu WordPress server you just click “update” on the site and it goes automatically.
