Thank you for your lengthy and quick reply. I believe that is the problem, and I have disabled the rule. The system appears to be working again, so thank you.

For information, I have the latest version of Form Maker, but mine is the Pro edition with a version number way ahead of the problem version. I wonder therefore if the rule has a bug in it, and it shouldn’t have triggered.

For reference, the version number of my plugin is this:

And the rule I disabled was this:
