    Gerard, any updates on this? And can I get a response to my emails please?

    Not sure why you’ve suddenly gone dark on this issue, when you clearly seem to have enough time to respond to other issues and reviews over the last week.

    Why you’ve chosen to suddenly stop responding as soon as I granted you access to my site upon request is beyond me, but this is definitely not a good look on ShortPixel and its quality of support.

    If there is a reason for this delay or lack of response, then please at least have the decency and professionalism to notify me – one of your plugin users – in a timely manner, rather than ignoring a legitimate query about Shortpixel Adaptive Images possibly not functioning correctly in resizing/serving featured images.

    I’m keeping this topic unresolved until Gerard and the devs over at ShortPixel investigate further and come back with an explanation of the issue.

    I’ve emailed them with access to my site so we should soon have a resolution for any other users out there who may encounter the same problem.

    Hi Gerard, thanks for the reply.

    If you want, we can take a look at your site and further investigate this. Since I see that you purchased some credits, feel free to contact us here and we will take it from there.

    Yes, I would definitely like to resolve this matter and therefore ask you to further investigate this issue.

    If Optimole can parse the exact same page/code and find the original image, I don’t see any reason why SPAI cannot do the same. Right now, I think SPAI is simply not functioning as it should be with regards to Featured Images.

    Will be in touch.

    Hello Gerard, thank you for the explanation. My apologies for my lack of understanding, but I’m still a little confused about your comments below:

    Optimole gets the original file while SPAI gets a thumbnail, so the solution is simply to add the original file (and not a thumbnail) as featured image on your SPAI example.

    When I select/insert the Featured Image from the post editor, I am selecting what is available in my Media Library, which is the original uploaded image at 2560x1707px. Here are some screenshots to show what I mean in the Imgur link below:

    As you can see, I am already adding the original image (and not the thumbnail) as the featured image like you suggested, however SPAI doesn’t seem to use that original image, whereas Optimole does.

    So, I guess my question is – why is Optimole able to get the original featured image (img0.jpg), while SPAI does not, even though both plugins are looking at the exact same post and code?

    As I mentioned before, shouldn’t SPAI also be using the original featured image like Optimole does?

    Hello Gerard, thank you for the reply. Unfortunately I am still a little unsure whether the results are as expected or not and it would be great if you could take another look at the new demo post below:

    https://wpdemo-0.com/post-18/

    As an example, I loaded the page on a 768px viewport width device with DPR 2 (i.e. typical Apple iPad resolution). The container width of the post column is 691px, so with a retina display (DPR=2), I would expect the images to be served as 1382px (691 x 2).

    When you look at the Featured Image (the first image at the top), with SPAI active, I can see that the CDN is serving a size of 830×500 which is (I believe) the Featured Image size set by the theme. The HTML code for this is:

    <img width="830" height="500" src="https://cdn.shortpixel.ai/spai/w_1382+q_lossy+ret_img+to_webp/https://wpdemo-0.com/wp/wp-content/uploads/2021/04/img0-830x500.jpg" data-spai="1" class="attachment-size4 size-size4 wp-post-image" alt="" data-spai-upd="691">

    As you mentioned, it seems the source image being used is indeed 830×500, so regardless of the DPR, the max image size being served for this container ends up as 830px for this device.

    When looking at all the images contained in the post, I can see that SPAI is serving the expected retina-display size at 1382px where appropriate.

    The thing is, when I compare this using another similar plugin – Optimole – I get different results. Optimole serves the Featured Image too as 1382px, which is what I would expect since I am using a retina-display device (DPR = 2).

    Here is the HTML for the Featured Image in Optimole:

    <img data-opt-src="https://mli61mn4n6ez.i.optimole.com/yc-Lqsw.0Gln~2e7d1/w:830/h:500/q:55/rt:fill/g:ce/https://wpdemo-0.com/wp/wp-content/uploads/2021/04/img0.jpg" width="830" height="500" src="https://mli61mn4n6ez.i.optimole.com/yc-Lqsw.0Gln~2e7d1/w:691/h:416/q:55/dpr:2.0/rt:fill/g:ce/https://wpdemo-0.com/wp/wp-content/uploads/2021/04/img0.jpg" class="attachment-size4 size-size4 wp-post-image" alt="" data-opt-lazy-loaded="true" data-opt-otimized-width="691" data-opt-optimized-height="416" style="max-width: 691px;">

    So, with that said, can you help explain why SPAI cannot serve the Featured Image to be retina-compatible like Optimole? Is SPAI built to only serve retina images in the post but not the featured image?

    Perhaps my understanding is not enough, but I just find it odd how in SPAI only the images in the post are served in 1382px while the featured image is fixed at 830px, thereby slightly degrading the image quality when viewing on a retina display like iPad or iPhones?

    If anything, I guess my expected result would be how Optimole serves the images – i.e. all the images served are resized to 2x the container width, but it seems SPAI isn’t functioning that way.

    Sorry for the lengthy post, but hope this makes sense.
