    I am going to mark this as fixed, I emailed the hosting company support after they had installed the extension and told them I still had issue but I believed it was more related to WordPress rather than the hosting php upgrade issue. SO I came here and raised a post.

    After posting my previous post I received another email from hosting supporting saying it was working ok (no explanation). When I tried I also could login into the site. So I guess when they installed the extension either they did not do it correctly or in doing so they broke something else but have now fixed it.

    Thanks for all the support

    Thanks for the help Threadi, I looked in my wp-config.php file and I found the following line at the bottom of the file (line 82 of 95):

    * @link https://ww.wp.xz.cn/support/article/debugging-in-wordpress/
    */
    define( ‘WP_DEBUG’, true );

    But when I look in wp-content folder there is no log file?? I can also confirm that the define line is above the “Happy Publishing” line

    The link https://ww.wp.xz.cn/support/article/debugging-in-wordpress/ does not work, but I did find the DeBugging in WordPress document which suggested that logging coulkd be turned off in WP_DEBUG_DISPLAY but I was not able to WP_DEBUG_DISPALY

    Hi Steve, thank for the suggestion, unfortunately me and Jetpack fell out with each ther very quickly (think minutes). No sooner had I installed it I found one of my other plugins was not working. Not being able to find out why I uninstalled Jetpack and would you believe itmy other plugin started working again. So I installed Jetpack again and guess what it stopped working. IJetpack was actually blocking the plugin I was using for spam filtering and getting me to use it own!

    Any software that simply decide to overwrite my settings without asking me is not to be trusted, it may have thousands of happy user and good luck to them, but ignoring the user is a big no no for me.

    I will continue looking

    Problem solved, I found a readme file on the site that said it was WP version 3.01. So I downloaded a copy of 3.01, uploaded that to the server upacked (keeping my wp-content folder and using my wp-config file). I was then able to login and then I updated the site to latest version of wp.

    Thanks for all the help

    Thanks Jeezyo, quick question, I have another install I can copy the wp-admin and wp-include folders from, what about the 25 or so wp-files that are in the root of the web server, do I copy those over or do I just go with the one I have on the non-operating blog??

    Hi Jeezyo, I tried renaming the plugins folder to plugins_old but still can’t login, I get the same error message when I try to login.

    HooRaa………….

    Copied the wp-admin from my other wordpress install and put it into xendistar.co.uk and I now have the full css login screen and I can login in without a problem.

    Thanks for the help guys, as it late here I am going to call it a night and try your suggestions tomorrow but one question

    I have another install of WP, same version as I am running which is unaffected by this problem (which it should be as it is a different domain etc.) can I copy the wp-admin folder from that install rather than download a new version etc.

    Will follows this up tomorrow.

    I renamed the theme folder theme_old and when I tried to access the login page, all I got a blank screen, I also got a blank screen when trying to view the site.

    I then reset the theme folder back as it was and then renamed the plugins folder to plugins_old and then made a new empty plugins folder. Unfortunately this made no difference, I still could not access the admin page.

    for reference I am using the following url for the login page

    http://xendistar.co.uk/wp-login.php

    Thanks for the help, I tried what you suggested, the correct url’s were being displayed although I did delete it and retype it for the sake of doing so. I did not have a wp-content\cache folder to delete

    Unfortunately I still can’t login

    Thanks Transpersonal, I copied the original comments.php from the theme over to the existing one and that seems to have solved the problem. I can’t believe how easy it is sometimes, I spent hours looking through the php files trying to find what I had changed 🙁

    That works if I use html tab for editing\writing posts but if I use visual tab it looks like Time Roman

    I have checked the theme stylesheet

    Thanks esmi, I deactivated the plugin’s (I only have three) as suggested and I was able to insert and see the picture. I activated the plugins one at a time and tried inserting another picture and it worked each time I tried. I have now activated all the plugins and it works………….bizarre!!

    At least I learnt a lesson of what to do when it goes wrong, thank you

    Regards
