I have found a way to make the plugin work the way I want, without worrying about the short code. It’s a good plugin!

update: this may be a problem with DIVI. updating DIVI solved the issue. I have had similar things happen with DIVI previously
same here. crashed one of four sites. so i assume it’s not playing nicely with another plugin.

my bad. neglected to tick the selection for Country Appears in Dropdown Select Lists
also, for the emailed version of the ticket, it does not show # of tickets for the registrant.
had tried that. it is set to be US. but in the dropdown for venue it only shows Canada
