When I said ‘backup’, I was oversimplifying, perhaps, I wanted to keep the site as an active archive so that I could use it as part of my portfolio without having to keep the domain.

I had had a few e-mail notifications saying that there was an update available but didn’t really take any notice until I got them saying that WordPress had been updated.

I edited the files mentioned but now all the site images are showing as missing.

I can’t get into the admin area as I’m getting a message which says:

‘Briefly unavailable for scheduled maintenance. Check back in a minute.’

The site files still exist on my server as a backup but I cannot access them as every time I try to do so, the URL redirects to the domain and then to the placeholder – even if I type the location of the files as so:

No. But I improvised using a plugin called Tweet Blender.

    Hello,

I appreciate your support but having been contemplating whether or not to do so for the past month, I have decided to discontinue my site.

The oldest date is 2014-02-08 which is a few days after I launched my site and probably coincides with when I installed the plugin.

As I mentioned, I haven’t changed any settings; in fact, the last time I changed anything was in the first couple of weeks of installing the plugin. I looked at the settings just now and pruning is set to 365 days (which I assume is the default) but as the site is only about four months old, that should not make any difference anyway.

Well, I don’t know what has happened. All I know is that the data I have recorded seems to be pretty irrelevant now.

I created a new application which works fine then got this from Twitter:

Twitter has automated systems that find and disable abusive API keys in bulk. Unfortunately, it looks like your application got caught up in one of these spam groups by mistake. We have reactivated the API key and we apologize for the inconvenience.

Not really sure how that happens – it’s not like I was hanging around a bank when it got robbed and got misidentified as one of the robbers.

Thanks for the reply. As I hadn’t a clue what I could have done wrong, I thought it may be a bug in the plug-in or something – I had no experience of WP or Twitter until this year.

    The e-mail said:

‘While this restriction is still in place, please do not attempt to register a new API key for your application without authorization from Twitter. Such an action is a violation of our API Terms of Service and may result in the permanent suspension of your application (as well as any associated developer accounts).’

So, I guess the best thing to do would be create a new application.

I have tried multiple browsers and two existing sites and created a virgin vanilla site for testing purposes.

I always have two windows open to drag and drop.

The + sign appears when using Firefox as the destination window, regardless of the source browser, otherwise when the text is dropped in the editor window, a ghost of the text springs back to its source window.

I should re-iterate that drag and drop text works everywhere else and add that drag and drop text works fine with WP in all browsers when text is dragged to the post’s title field or the Text pane of the body field – it is only the Visual pane of the post’s body field which fails.

P.S. Nice of you to hide this thread from everybody else.

    What is there to hide?

    Oh, yeah…

Well, I have tried with Safari, Firefox, Torch and Opera and the only browser which permits drag and drop text in the Visual pane is Firefox, so I guess that there must be a bug in at least three browsers which, incidentally, all permit drag and drop text on other sites.

FWIW – the problem only occurs in Safari (on a Mac – even with all Safari plugins etc. disabled), as far as I can tell.

To satisfy myself, I installed a fresh version of WP on a completely different site with no plugins or any add-ons or themes – straight out of the box. I tried to make a new post and drag text from one Safari page to another and it would not do it.

I am satisfied that there is nothing wrong with any of my installations and that there is a bug in WP 3.9.1 which was introduced when fixing the reported drag and drop problem.

Now, will you move this thread back to the Requests and Feedback section where I originally posted it, please.

    Huh!

So, it occurs on two sites, one of which is a near virgin vanilla installation on a completely different server and you insist that it is a problem on the first one of my sites?

No, I don’t see millions of topics on this issue; why? Because a) there were not millions of people who reported the initial drag and drop problem, only those who used drag and drop text on a regular basis and b) WP 3.9.1 was only released a day or so ago, maybe other users haven’t updated yet or experience the problem.

But I would like to add as a final note that I didn’t ask you or anybody else for support. I posted this thread in Requests and Feedback – as I did with my original thread on the topic; here: http://ww.wp.xz.cn/support/topic/please-allow-the-new-media-feature-in-39-to-be-disabled – but somebody moved it to another section. I was merely trying to be helpful by pointing out a possible bug.
