    Under the topic/reply form there is a setting No9 to choose between Text Editor Only, Visual Editor Only or Show Both Visual and Text Editors, if you choose Text editor only it displays both the text and visual. I have already created a ticket on bpress because the media upload has stopped working. The visual editor contains an icon to upload media but the text editor does not so I want to stop users tying to upload media until hopefully it is fixed.

  • My Guests do see the TinyMCE visual editor buttons as soon as I enable the image upload plugin

    @clivesmith

    Are you sure about that? Here’s what I see as a guest on your site:

    Same on my test site.

    in fact that plugin over rides the bbp style plugin because the 9. show editors setting in the Topic/Reply form doesnot change what the visitors/ users see.

    @clivesmith

    I’ve noticed that it does some funky things with the “Text Editor” option in Style Pack, but this only seems to affect admins/logged-in users. Guests see no editor period.

    Just a thought is TinyMCE a part of wordpress core ?

    @clivesmith

    Yes it is, and it is possible that changes have been made to WP core within recent updates. I will try to verify this or get any additional info I can.

    @codejp3 the reason you are not seeing the TinyMCE on my website is I have disabled the image plugin, I will enable it now so you can see it, I will not touch the bbp stayle settings which is set to text only, I will disable it again once you have seen it.

    Strange.

    Here’s what I see in Firefox (text only):

    Here’s what I see in Chrome (text and visual):

    Here’s what I see in Midori (neither controls):

    I refreshed and tried various topics within each browser just to make sure I was viewing after you made the changes.

    Something wonky going on there…

    @codejp3 no idea, I see what you are seeing on chrome on two computer running firefox normal and private tabs, on Brave, chrome and edge when I have the plugin enabled. I think it is definatly wonky. especially as the bbp style says you should only see text. I am using coudflare, I have just cleared the cahce for that page.

    I have now set the bbp style setting to both text and visual.

    @robin-w Thank you, so it must be something just to do with my website, it was nice to have the odd picture but not really important, I think rather than wasting yours and @codejp3 time I should just stop pictures being posted.

    Regards

    @robin-w – thank you for your testing and input. If Clive wants to pursue this further, we may have some simple questions for you (copy/paste kinda stuff from the Style Pack “Plugin Info” tab).

    @clivesmith – If you do want to pursue this further, I will setup a test site on my server where you can play around with this until it gets resolved without messing with your live site anymore like you have been. Let me know and I’ll get it setup and send you the link and login info.

    @codejp3 I do have a local test site ( I use wp-migrate and the software local ) so I do not normally test on my live site, it is only if others need to see it. So thank you but I don’t need to use it.

    Can I ask how the insert image works on bbp style without the extra image plugin ?, I only see a box with three inputs, the first being source, there is no search button so you can only type in where it is on your hard drive which does not get transfered to the server, is this another clitch on my website ?

    without upload, you can’t upload ANY files, all you can do is reference a url to an image. so no search and typing a hard drive path gets you nowhere either, the image has to be on a website somewhere already.

    I’m now betting that this is a cloudfare issue, either in general or in a setting.

    I’d suggest as a test you deactivate cloudfare and see if that changes anything

    Thread Starter Clivesmith

    (@clivesmith)

    @robin-w , I am not sure I understand why cloudflare would produce this effect.

    It copies the pictures to hm_bbpui_temp for both the admin and guests but only moves the pictures to a sub folder in hm_bbpui for the admin. It seems moving the photo to hm_bbpui tells the replier it has worked. Both the folders have the same permissions.

    just working in what’s different to my set up, and would be a good one to eliminate. I’m not suggesting that you permanently deactivate this, just do it as a test so we can rule it out, or work out why it is an issue.

    Thanks Robin but the copy I run in “local” on my PC does not use cloudflare and I still have the problem on that.
