“Either “name” or “item.name” should be specified”

This error means that the breadcrumb markup does not have a title. This could mean that either the page itself doesn’t have a defined title (appears as (no title) in the page overview) or has an empty breadcrumb title. To check the breadcrumb title, please follow the steps here

We also noted that each of these include a variable attachment_id which seems to change the content of the page so there is a possibility that the issue is caused by the product that adds this variable. If the page has a breadcrumb title, we would like to rule out any plugin or theme conflicts that may occur. The fastest way to do this is to deactivate all non-Yoast plugins and switch to a standard theme like Twenty Nineteen

Test this on your development or staging site, if you have one. If not, we recommend using the Health Check & Troubleshooting plugin. This plugin allows you to run a conflict check without affecting normal visitors to your site.

As we can imagine that you’re unfamiliar with checking for conflicts, we’d like to point you to a step-by-step guide that will walk you through the process: How to check for plugin conflicts.

    Hi Amboutwe,

Many thanks for your reply and suggestions.

We have checked and noticed that NONE of our post or pages have a breadcrumb title.

They all have an SEO Title defined under snippet but none of them have a breadcrumb title.

Hence, this seems to be the issue.

    The question is now:
    How can we fix this?

It is obviously impossible to to go through all posts, pages, categories, archives, … and add a breadcrumb title.

    What would you suggest?

Is it possible that you could include in one of the next updates that the SEO title becomes the breadcrumb title automatically?

Many thanks for looking into this.

    Hi @pairfumlondon,

Yoast SEO should use by default the SEO title for breadcrumb titles too. The issue seems to be happening only on specific pages of your website (there are 590 valid pages and 36 with errors, according to your screenshot).

The issue seems to happen on the subpages of your homepage. Is your homepage a static page, or set to display the latest posts? You can check by going to Settings → Reading, in your WordPress dashboard.

We are looking forward to hearing from you.

    Dear Marius ( @marius_codeinwp ),

Many thanks for your reply and explanation that Yoast uses the SEO title for breadcrumb titles too.

For your information, our site uses the GeneratePress Theme and the BeaverBuilder Plugin.

To be honest, we are a bit puzzled ourselves:
    – our home page ( https://www.pairfum.com ) is a static page (Settings > Reading) that we created using the BB plugin and it display only the 3 x most recent posts.
    – under Settings > Reading, we do NOT define a posts page. Instead, our blog page ( https://www.pairfum.com/blog/ ) is also a page created using the BB plugin.

When you look at the pages that have the breadcrumb issue, they list our blog posts in chronological order split into pages. Hence, it seems more like a system generated archive page.

Perhaps Tom ( @edge22 ) from GeneratePress has an idea where these pages come from.

Many thanks for your help to fix this issue.

    Kind regards,

    Huib

    Hi Huib,

Thanks for following up. I’m sorry for the confusion, I was wrong on those URLs being subpages of the homepage. It seems they are subpages of some category archives.

For example, these 2 URLs load the same content:
    https://www.pairfum.com/page/25/?attachment_id=tzccvwjylentsqfw&v=79cba1185463
    https://www.pairfum.com/british-flower-week-day-four-foliage/page/25/

What we could not yet figure out is what creates the first URL. We’re still trying to replicate this issue on our end.

    Dear Amboutwe and Marius,

I had a reply from the author of GeneratePress and I thought I should share it with you, as it might offer some ideas how this problem could be fixed:

“The theme itself doesn’t have the capability to create pages for you.

It looks like WordPress won’t redirect pages that add /page/xx to the URL, it will just load the page as if the /page/xx part doesn’t exist.

Perhaps those pages are in your sitemap and need to be removed?”

Could the sitemap be the cause?

Many thanks for your continued support to resolve this problem.

    Kind regards,

The sitemap does not include subpages of a paginated content (the /page/xx URLs). Google typically finds these types of URLs in the source code of your site; usually for archive pages (list of posts, list of products assigned to a category, etc).

    Dear Amboutwe,

    Many thanks for the explanation.

Did you or Marius ( @marius_codeinwp ) have any luck replicating or fixing the issue already?

Many thanks for your help on this.

I’ve been working on a similar topic here with a similar issue (breadcrumbs on a /page/[number]?[variable]) and have not, yet, been able to reproduce the issue.

    Hi Amboutwe,

We are surprised that you are closing this support request and mark it as ‘solved’.

We are still waiting on a solution from you.

In the meantime, we have run the ‘Health & Troubleshooting’ Plugin:
    https://ww.wp.xz.cn/plugins/health-check/
    The plugin found now issues.

    Hence, we are still waiting.

We presume that other users of Yoast experience the same issue.

Have you found solutions with / for them?

    Kind regards,

    Pairfum London
