I have checked the issue. Basically it’s not a ‘bug’. The excerpt length will work only in case of automatically generated excerpts. If you manually specify the excerpt the limit will not work.
Which actually makes a lot of sense 🙂
Does this sort the issue?

Not in my case: I did not fill the excerpt field.
I have just tested that yesterday on a fresh install without any plugins installed and it did work. Perhaps you’re thinking of the amount of letters and not words? The excerpt length is judged against the words.
If this is still the case can you let me know the set up of your environment? PHP Version, Backend Engine, etc.?

Seem like your configuration shouldn’t case any issues actually.
What about my other comment? The excerpt lenght is based on the amount of words and not the letters.
If you’re not using or testing the plugin I will not be able to propose the solutions actually 🙂
I guess we could wait for similar support requests in that case and close the topic.

I tested with 10 words excerpt and it not work. “Read more” sentence does not show. You can close the topic if you want. No problem for me.
Well I’d like to help you out but I actually dont understand the issue. And I’m not sure if the exceprt behavior is actually that clear to everyone.
If you have a 10 words excerpt and limit the length to 10 words the Read More sentcence will not show. The sentence appears only if you have the automatic excert longer than the specified limit. Was that the case?
Could I by any chance get access to the test server?

Actually you’re not using a default theme and you also have some plugins installed there.
I actually did a try with the latest ACFRPW plugin release using your theme and it did work: http://screencast.com/t/8bZc0UQzzW.
Have you tried that on a fresh / blank install actually?

You can take a look now – only ACF activated, Twenty Fifteen theme.
Notice: with Twenty Eleven theme, the “read more” is showing.
So this means that it’s confiuration related.
Could you set me up with administrator account ([email protected])? Can I get email invitation? I have coded the plugin under Twenty Fifteen. My bet is that it’s something else.
