Can anyone walk me through how to log into Filezilla? I have the host as my wordpress domain, the username works, but the password does not. I am completely new to this and I have no idea what I’m doing. I just know that I crashed my website all because I was coding CSS and added an extra “.” where it wasn’t supposed to be.

Please help!! I really don’t know what else to do!

I was editing my CSS code to move my sidebar from the left side to the right side. I added a “.” before the code by accident and hit “upload” or whatever the button was. Then the entire site crashed saying
“Parse error: syntax error, unexpected ‘.’, expecting ‘)’ in /home/justinp1/public_html/calhisportsbayarea.com/wp-content/themes/theme45390/includes/sidebar-init.php on line 13”

I’ve been looking through the forums and everyone just says to download filezilla and everything will be okay?? I downloaded FileZilla and I still have no idea what to do…

Please, PLEASE help. I’m so stressed out about this. ):

    Hi,

CSS can’t break the site like this. You probably edited a PHP file. Could you tell me the error message which is appearing?

And here’s how to use FileZilla: https://www.digitalocean.com/community/tutorials/how-to-use-filezilla-to-transfer-and-manage-files-securely-on-your-vps

    Hope it helps. 🙂

Hardeep, thank you so much for replying.

“Parse error: syntax error, unexpected ‘.’, expecting ‘)’ in /home/justinp1/public_html/calhisportsbayarea.com/wp-content/themes/theme45390/includes/sidebar-init.php on line 13”

Is there error that keeps appearing.

There’s too much stuff I don’t understand on the filezilla link for it to help me. It just makes me more lost!! I need someone to explain this to me like I’m 5 years old! ):

    Hi,

It looks like you’re using a custom theme or something similar. Can you login to your FTP and navigate to /public_html/calhisportsbayarea.com/wp-content/themes/theme45390/includes/sidebar-init.php.

Please copy all the code inside sidebar-init.php and post it here using http://pastebin.com/

    Let me know. 🙂

Hardeep, you were right. I edited the PHP code. How do I fix this now, please?

i don’t know how to log in to my FTP? I dont know what that is.

You can read this tutorial to get info on how to use FTP: https://www.digitalocean.com/community/tutorials/how-to-use-filezilla-to-transfer-and-manage-files-securely-on-your-vps

Also, you should contact your hosting provider and they will give you your FTP credentials. 🙂

i copied the code inside the php before I changed anything though. could I just paste the original code into pastebin?

If you have to backup file then you don’t need to paste it here. You just need to access to your FTP and replace the broken file with your backup. 🙂

Maybe this will help you: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rUNQphoGVwQ

It’s a video tutorial explaining how to use FileZilla.

I don’t know who my hosting provider is? ):

How did you get this site? Did you hire someone to completely manage it for you or did you buy it from someone?

The youtube guy logged into his account very easily! I don’t know what password to use as the password for the wordpress isn’t working. but the username is working? so I dont know what the password is.

i’m an employee working for the company that this site is for. i was put in charge of the company’s wordpress site so i could edit it! and then i messed it up and now my boss is livid as he doesn’t understand how I could kill the website. I can’t explain it to him either as I don’t even know how I did it. ):

That’s a bad situation to be in. You will need to ask, whoever bought the hosting/ for FTP/Hosting credentials. It could be your IT team (if there’s any) or maybe your boss. It’s easy to fix but you can’t do anything without your FTP, unfortunately.
