• Hello,

I was looking at the Shortcodes | Events Manager Documentation page with a view to setting up an Events page for a website with a custom template applied to the /events page created by the Events Manager plugin.

My aim with the template being applied to the page was to include a banner saying “Events” and then the list of future events with the Search filtering panel being displayed above the list of events.

I initially tried to do this using the [event_search_form] tag on the grounds that the documentation says:

Displays the same search form you see on your default events page. An events page must be selected in Events > Settings > Pages > Event List/Archives in order for this to work properly.”

It does appear, however that the even if you have a search page setup the list of future events does not show up – unless you first click search.

The above quote from the documentation is factually accurate. However, I would suggest it’s not clear that the behaviour that the user experiences is different to that of the default event events form. I was eventually able to embed an events list with a search form by using the following tag:

    [events_list has_search=1]

I ended up searching around, raising a support ticket with the maker of the theme I use assuming I was doing something wrong before arriving at this solution.

I have found another thread from a couple of years ago, where it looks like another user had the same misunderstanding I did – question about [event_search_form] shortcode | ww.wp.xz.cn

Could I therefore ask if an extra sentence or two could be added to the [event_search_form] section of the shortcode documentation to clarify what this shortcode does for future users:

“Displays the same search form you see on your default events page. An events page must be selected in Events > Settings > Pages > Event List/Archives in order for this to work properly.

Event results will only be returned after the user has made their criteria selections and has pressed the ‘Search’ button. To display when the page initially loads, the event search form, and future events, in a similar fashion to what is experienced on the default event page – consider an alternative shortcode like [events_list has_search=1]”

Thank you in advance for your consideration!
