Trying to install Wordfence onto a site hosted by a Windows server. Upon activation of the plugin, the entire site goes down with a 500 internal server error.

After researching, I understand that Wordfence is non-compatible with Windows, however it might work if the firewall is disabled? I’ve tried inserting this code

    define('WFWAF_ENABLED', false); into the wp-config.php and changing the code in wordfence / vendor / wordfence / wf-waf / src / init.php

basically going off of this forum: https://ww.wp.xz.cn/support/topic/windows-server-iis

    however both have been unsuccessful.

Is there any other way to get Wordfence up on a Windows server? I also understand that an updated version of Wordfence will be coming out soon with a modification that should help. When will that new version be available?

Any information would be helpful! Thanks!

  • Hi

Just to make sure you know, this is a better place to post Wordfence specific questions:

    (@mods can you move this?)

I believe the next release will be in the next week.

It’s not that Wordfence is incompatible with Windows. The problem is we don’t test against it because the configurations vary so much thus harder to support. We have users that use wordfence with windows and have no problems with it (I’m kind of surprised one hasn’t answered here yet).

Leave the WAF in basic protecting mode for now and try again after the point release.

I can’t move it but I can encourage makeitpop to use this link and repost.

@makeitpop When you post in a plugin’s dedicated support sub-forum then you not only improve the odds of getting support but make it easier on yourself as well as others.

Use that link, I’m sure you’ll get the assistance you need. 😉
