Does it still happen if you deactivate the WP Edit plugin?
Hi,
Turned off ALL plugins. Deactivated WP Edit, deleted it and then re-installed tinymce – no change. Then deactivated tinymce as well. Problem persists.
What do you mean “re-installed tinymce” how did you do that?
And, what do you mean by “deactivated tinymce”? Is there another TinyMCE plugin that you have? (TinyMCE is built into WordPress as the Visual editor tab.)
This may be a dup reply.
Several months ago i got a notice that tinymce 4.1.7 would no longer be supported after the WP update 4.3 and that it should be deleted. The replacement was listed as WP-Edit 3.7 by Josh Lobe.
When i began experience the editor problem, i deleted wp-edit and found tinymce on the plugin list and downloaded ans re-installed it. That did not solve the problem so i deactivated it and deleted it again.
Ok, try deactivating *all* plugins, every single one. If that resolves the issue, reactivate each one individually until you find the cause.
If that does not resolve the issue, try switching to the Twenty Sixteen theme to rule-out a theme-specific issue (theme functions can interfere like plugins).
Hi James,
Thank you for your reply.
Deactivated ALL plugins – no change in editor misbehaving.
Activated 2015 Theme – no change in Editor misbehaving.
Changed back to graphene theme – no change in editor misbehaving.
Restored to earlier files – no change in editor misbehaving.
Where do we go now??
Huh, that’s very odd.
First, please make sure that your browser is up to date by visiting https://whatbrowser.org/
If it is not, please try updating your browser or switching to a different browser.
If it is, please do these two things:
1. Try clearing your browser’s cache and cookies.
2. Try with all browser extensions or add-ons temporarily disabled.
Please let us know how each step goes for you, and which browser (and version of) you’re using if you’re still having trouble.
Hi,
Thank you for your continued suggestions.
Tried all of your above suggestions all to no avail. The wysiwyg editor still does not work properly.
I appreciate your efforts – any more ideas as i am completely stumped.
Oops – missed the browser version(s)
IE Version 11 Very rarely used.
Mozilla Firefox Version 43 – just updated.Problem persists.
Hm, core file corruption, maybe? Seems odd though, but worth a shot.
Try downloading WordPress again, access your server via SFTP or FTP, or a file manager in your hosting account’s control panel, and delete then replace your copies of everything on the server except the
wp-config.phpfile and the/wp-content/directory with fresh copies from the download. This will effectively replace all of your core files without damaging your content and settings. Some uploaders tend to be unreliable when overwriting files, so don’t forget to delete the original files before replacing them.
Sounds like you are suggesting a manual update here – or at least the same procedure. What about the .htaccess file – should that be retained?
As an aside, I forgot to mention that this site utilizes a “child” theme to the original Graphene theme – not my doing. I’m not sure if this could alter a manual update as i have never tried one on a site utilizing a child theme.
Any thoughts here?
It’s fine to keep .htaccess. You’re just replacing the core files, except wp-config.php and those in /wp-content/
As long as you don’t replace wp-content, you won’t affect your theme.
Well, I did as you suggested AND all to no avail.
The site still resolves and the home and the rest of it look Ok. Just can’t post or add pages or widgets as well as a misbehaving wysiwyg editor.
This gets curiouser and curiouser as Alice said.
What’s the URL of the site?
http://www.nevadacountydemocrats.com
I just figured out why the posts and pages weren’t showing up. The site was using menus and not direct post/page operation. One down the rest to go.
