  • Hello, Michael, & welcome. Please go to ‘Settings > Reading’ on your dashboard. Please then check that your front page is a static homepage, & choose Hudson from the dropdown list. That should get it set up. & o, yeah–please *don’t* forget to save the settings. Please let us know if this helps, ok?

Sally, please back up your site, both the files & the database. That will save your content if this doesn’t resolve.

Hello, Sally, & welcome. Actually, this is not a WordPress topic. WordPress is just the software used to build websites, & this forum is used to help folks solve problems related to the software.

Having said that, I looked at the WhoIs entry for your domain & it indicates that your domain registrar is Wild West domains:
    http://www.wildwestdomains.com

    We hope that helps.

No problem. If you’d be so kind, please mark the topic ‘resolved’ so the volunteers understand you’ve solved the difficulty to your satisfaction & can go on to help others. Thank you.

Hi, jessicalscott. When I searched for “display posts” on the WordPress plugins site, I got 3 results I think might help:
    Display Posts Shortcode
    WP Show Posts
    List category posts

I’m sorry to see that the 1st 1 has not been tested w/the latest version of WordPress, as I’ve used it in the past & found it very helpful. WP ShowPosts is also a very good plugin that I think will meet your needs, & it has been tested w/the latest WordPress version. I’ve used it too, but found Display Posts Shortcode a bit more intuitive. But I can’t really recommend it if it is no longer being maintained, & obviously I’m not sure of that, since the last update was 5 months ago, the author may just not have seen any reason to update. In the final analysis, it’s your decision, but bear in mind that plugins which haven’t been updated for more than a year could potentially contain security vulnerabilities & render your site an easier target for bad guys.

Please let us know if 1 of those plugins helps.

Well, that is going to make your job harder, that’s a certainty.
Firstly, you’ll need to create categories, such as football,
basketball, etc, if you haven’t already done so. Don’t get real
carried away w/this. Then, you’ll have to put the posts into the
categories where they belong. Once that’s done, then the posts can be
    accessed w/an URL like:
    http://www.yourdomain.com/category/football
Note what is known as the “slug” on your categories, as this is how
they’ll be accessed. If the category is more than 1 word, ie, nfl
football, then the slug is usually nfl-football.

There are plugins that can be used to display posts on pages. We can
discuss that further if that is of interest.

    HTH?

jessicalscott, were these posts imported from a WordPress blog? Were categories also imported?

Unfortunately, jessicalscott, by default, WordPress does not assign categories to posts, only pages.

Hello, Ray, & welcome. I’m not sure what you mean by “”I wasn’t able to make any changes to the attributes part of the database.” If you tried to change something in the database, that may have corrupted it. Perhaps restoring the backup might help.

“When I try to add pictures it comes up with an http:// error.” This suggests either that you don’t have file uploads turned on or that the post_max_size &/or upload_max_size is too small.

You might try, as a temporary measure, disabling all plugins & reverting to a default theme “they begin w/the word ‘twenty’ & see if this resolves the issue. If it does, try re-enabling your theme first. If the site breaks, then the problem is clearly your theme. If the site remains functional, then begin re-enabling plugins 1 at a time & continue to perform the operation that previously broke the site till the site becomes inoperative again, in which case you’ve found the culprit plugin.

Sometimes it can prove helpful in situations like this for us to have the site url so we can have a look.

I think, DJ Allyn, given what you’ve just said, that submitting this site to Google Search Console (google.com/webmastertools) & running a plugin like Wordfence to scan for malware, borders on the mandatory. I’d also advise checking your users, especially administrator users, to make sure you recognize all of them. I think I’d also consider changing passwords on the hosting provider’s control panel, database (don’t forget to edit the wp-config.php file to reflect the latter change), & the WordPress dashboard for all admin users. Count me as concerned. Having said that, a couple of sites that scan for suspicious activity found none, but they freely admit that finding 100% of site compromises by means of their tools is not possible. If your .htaccess file was not changed by you or a sanctioned plugin, then of course your site is not totally within your control, & the criminals can do whatever they wish, whenever they wish to.

DJ Allyn, what plugins is this site running? If you recall, I mentioned in 1 of my posts that a site compromise could be causing this. This really raises the spectre of that, but I need to find out if perhaps a security plug might’ve added code like that to the .htaccess file before I get really worried.

Sometimes, DJ Allyn, if a database gets too large, this is 1 of the effects, especially on shared hosting, where they tend to limit the size to about 1gb. A site compromise is another possibility, though I tend to favor the former as a more plausible diagnosis.

Hello, DJ Allyn, & welcome. You’re definitively getting a 403 forbidden response when trying to register, but that’s even via your sidebar widget. Please tell us what sort of hosting you have, ie, shared, VPS, or dedicated, as well as what operating system (I’m assuming Linux, since you spoke of permissions in terms of numbers). Are you running a firewall &/or something like Cloudflare? Also, what’s your database size?

chembuddy, you’ve got your wp_debug set to ‘true’ in your wp-config.php file. Please change this immediately, as the errors are being displayed on your site, which poses a significant security risk.

Hey, chembuddy, if you decide you still need help w/this, you’ve always got the option of posting a job on jobs.wordpress.net. I guess perhaps it’s a bit of a stretch, as at this point it doesn’t appear to be a WordPress issue, or at least not entirely so, but that may be something you’ll want to look into, just in case.
