In reply to: [Solid Mail – SMTP email and logging made by SolidWP] can’t access wp-adminHi Beatrice
Thanks for getting back to me. I managed to get this sorted out the following day and I believe the person who helped me did exactly as you suggested, except they deleted the directory instead of renaming it.
I’ve since moved the website so I can’t remember exactly what it ran on, but I think it was PHP 7.4… it hasn’t been updated since the website was created I think in 2017.
I’ve got it on the newest PHP and WordPress version now so email is working again.
Cheers

In reply to: [Under Construction] unable to remove under construction pageOk, crisis averted (again). I did as you said and contacted the hosting provider. Apparently, caching is not optional so when I “disabled” caching, what I actually did was disable the automatic purging feature, meaning that the cached version never got updated. I don’t understand why nothing different happened when I purged the hosting-level cache myself, but the support rep just clicked the same button I did and now it works.
Clearly, this is a sign I should just quit web design and leave it to the people whose buttons obey them when clicked. 🤦♂️😂
Once again, thank you for all your help.

In reply to: [Under Construction] unable to remove under construction pageHi Alexandru
I thought I was out of the woods with this problem but unfortunately my website only worked for like a day before caching broke it again. I’m definitely sure it’s cache related because the link you sent previously (https://laptoprepairpro.com/?nocache=dsasda) still displays the page.
However, what’s confusing matters now is that I’ve purged and disabled LiteSpeed Cache in WordPress as well as purged and disabled cache in the cpanel on the hosting site. The hosting site allegedly refreshes the cached version every 30 minutes so it shouldn’t matter in the grand scheme of things but I just wanted to rule out any potential issues.
This means that the page should now render from my hosting space each time with no caching but it’s not working. I’m not aware of any other cache solutions on my page so I don’t know what’s going on. I know this goes well beyond the scope of supporting your own plugin but have you got any ideas why the under construction page is still displayed?
Cheers

In reply to: [Under Construction] unable to remove under construction pageThanks very much for your advice. I’ll reach out to them and also do some tests turning each of them off for a week to see if anything improves or breaks or if there’s no difference.
I just know I have a lot more control over the one in WordPress – the other I can toggle on and off or purge, but this is done somewhere completely different than where the rest of the site is managed.
Thanks again for everything.

In reply to: [Under Construction] unable to remove under construction pageI think it worked! @talextech, you did it!
The hosting cpanel allowed me to purge all under advanced > cache manager, so it seems like the page is double-cached – once inside wordpress and again inside the hosting plan. Is that a problem? Feels like I should disable one of them…

I tried ?nocache but I clearly don’t understand how that parameter works because I didn’t know it had to have a value. My mistake. I have LiteSpeed Cache installed on WordPress but it does ring a bell that my hosting provider uses it to speed up other pages which aren’t WordPress-based. I’ll see if I have the power to clear it or if I can ask them to.
I’ll post about it if I need further help.
