I had actually started troubleshooting with my host before posting here. But then they said:
The WordPress Codex is the next place I’d recommend checking for information if you want to post online there the WordPress admins are often much quicker at tracking down errors since they work with WordPress specific issues more than our Tech Support does.
I guess I’ll go back to them and see what they say. Will update this thread after I get a response from them.

But I just went back and tried repairing all of the wp_8_* tables. I checked the site in IE and Firefox (on a PC) and cleared browser history, too. Problem still exists.
Any other ideas?

In reply to: Hyperlink pop window not displayingOne of the plugins (Portfolio Slideshow) was causing the problem. It was out of date, and once I updated it, the hyperlink button started working.
Thanks so much! I had originally clicked that Screen Options tab from the Dashboard, and of course (since hindsight is always 20/20) the options were different there as compared to the Screen Options displayed in the Edit Post screen.
