So now the image map is created (I’ve made one in InDesign).
But how can I upload it to my WordPress site?
Any image uploaded to the library strips out any links.
Then I can only add one to my entire image.

Solved problem myself. I’d added (and activated) Google Adsense PlugIn, but had not continued to set up properly. Deactivated that plugIn (for now) and blank area is gone.
(Just in case anyone else has the problem.
