It was a plugin conflict
Deactivate them all new reactivate the siteorigin plugin first and test it without any others activated.
Then activate the other plugins one by one and test them in between activating the next one.
My plugin conflict was a caching plugin.

I’m having the same issues as a few others on the thread.
The topic title is my issue:
Slider is not properly configured
I’ve done everything instructed.
I’ve developed many wordpress sites so I have a little experience
I created a featured category. I went through options chose the correct category
and the number of slides. I removed and reinstalled the theme, but get the same results.
