In reply to: Unwanted Comments Formthis has no influence on the comment form – it only controls the showing of the ‘discussion’ field below the editor, where you can then untick ‘allow comments’
That fixed it, alchymyth. Thanks so much!

In reply to: Unwanted Comments FormYou mean uncheck the comment setting on the individual page(s), right? That’s exactly what I’ve done. But it doesn’t make a difference. Thanks, though.

In reply to: Adding/Editing Page Results in 404 ErrorProblem resolved. My Web host admin identified and corrected the trouble spot. It was a setting on the host side, nothing I could have fixed. Pages are now humming along, or at least, they will be once I’ve cleaned up the aftermath. π

In reply to: Adding/Editing Page Results in 404 ErrorI went through the four recommendations on the link you gave me and wound up contacting my Web host. He told me that the memory provided by Dryline Hosting is easily sufficient for WP. Here’s his response:
The memory limit in php.ini has for some time been set at 256M, which is more than enough for WordPress, and I believe the recommended amount by WP. We have dozens of WP installs on the server, and no one else has reported any memory issues.
You can view the current php configuration from your site’s cpanel. In the information in the left pane, about halfway down in the server information section.
Given the change of directory you had when moving, I would almost bet that any 404 you are getting on your site are due to (what is now) an invalid directory since the move.
If you could link me to a specific 404 error, I could take a look and see if that is the case.
The reason I don’t think the problem is an invalid directory is, I’ve gotten this problem with brand new pages that I created as a test. They show up fine until I hit some unknown limit in the amount of content; then suddenly I get the 404 instead of a viewable page. I’ve wondered if the problem is as simple as changing a setting, but so far I haven’t found a setting that seems likely.

In reply to: Adding/Editing Page Results in 404 ErrorYes, but even doubling up on my B vitamins doesn’t help.
Okay, joking aside, no–I’ll give that a try and let you know how it works.

In reply to: Adding/Editing Page Results in 404 ErrorI encounter the problem both when I’m editing a page or using the “New Page” button to create a page. I’ve lost some pages as a result. At first I thought there was something broken in the connection between sub-pages and my parent page, and I thought I’d try to recreate pages, even the whole parent/child setup if I needed to.
But I can’t. I run into the same problem whether I’m creating a page or editing an existing page. Something won’t let me publish more than a certain amount of content, with or without images.
Okay, the bit with the 404 is a WP issue, not NexGen. It’s all rolling into one big frustration, but I’ve at least managed to separate the one from the other.
Galleries and singlepics/thumbnails/whatever you want to call them are a NexGen problem. No point talking about it anymore, though.
I’m having the same problem. I enter the shortcode and get a 404 message. Strangely, previously existing galleries show up, but due to a recent file reorganization, they’re the wrong images. When I insert the correct file ID in the shortcode, I get a 404 message.
Singlepics also aren’t showing up as images, just ugly white tabs. I’ve asked for help three times so far over the last 2 weeks and gotten no response.
NexGen was wonderful before these 1.7 updates, but now I can’t use it. Last night I finally decided to try a workaround using the WP insert button and that at least gives me thumbnails. Not a satisfactory solution, but it’ll have to do. What on earth do I have to do in order to get some help?
OOPS! Sorry for the duplicate post! Not intentional.
I’m not sure how long it normally takes to get a response on this forum, so I’m nudging this to make sure it doesn’t get lost in the shuffle of new posts. Thanks.
