In reply to: [bbp style pack] Log-in setting issuesI’m just trying to wrestle with the post log-in redirect from the log-in page to the forum page. I’m trying to take the member directly from the log-in page to the forums. Putting the shortcode on the forum page didn’t work. All I saw was the “You’re already logged in” message.
Is there another shortcode for the redirect? I’m afraid I don’t understand the directions for this part of the Login tab in bbp Style Pack.

In reply to: [bbp style pack] Log-in setting issuesSo let me make sure I’m getting this right.
The [ bbp-login ] code goes on the main page of the forum. The address of that page goes in the redirect field on the Login tab of bbp Style Pack. That means that after a user logs in, s/he gets redirected to the forum page.
Is that correct?

In reply to: [bbp style pack] Log-in setting issuesActually , I think this entire problem stems from one misunderstanding on my part.
On the Log-in tab of bbp Style Pack, the Logged-in Redirect Field includes this instruction:
If you are using [ bbp-login ], then if you enter a full url of the page with this shortcode here, users will be redirected to that page instead of getting the “you are already logged in” above
A full URL of the page with which shortcode? [ bbp-login ] belongs on the log-in page. What’s the shortcode for the logged-in redirect page?
I will put it on the forum page, and all my problems will go away. My log-in process will stop returning to the log-in page and displaying the “You’re logged in” message.
At this point, that’s my only problem.

In reply to: [bbp style pack] Log-in setting issuesOK, I think I’ve narrowed this down.
If I load the forums without being logged in, why doesn’t that trigger the message in the file feedback-no-access.php?
Instead, what I’m getting comes from feedback-no-forums.php
Wouldn’t it make better sense to trigger the no-access message instead of the no-forums message? Or is that something a plug-in can do?
BTW, I deactivated and reactivated both plug-ins. Most of my settings stayed in place.

In reply to: [bbp style pack] Log-in setting issuesTyping the log-in link into the browser loads the log-in screen correctly.
Let me try disabling the plug-ins and see what happens. Before I do that, however, what’s the best way to back up my settings?

In reply to: [bbp style pack] Log-in setting issuesHi, Robin:
Both fields are set to localhost:8888/ab
(Leaving off the “http://” so the above doesn’t turn into a link)
“ab” is the correct name of the folder in which I’ve installed the site.
Please pardon my delay in replying. I have been doing some investigating.
It appears that the permalinks are in fact the problem, but I have resaved them twice to no avail.
I had the forum page set to carry the slug “member-discussions” (without the quotation marks, of course) and changed it to “forums.” The menu item now carries the navigation label “Member discussions.” The link properly should be localhost:8888/ab/forums. The only way I can get the forums to load is to substitute “member-discussions” for “forums” in the URL.
I think the next step is to delete the page and reinsert it. I’ll try that right now and report the results in this message before I send it.

So yes, deleting and recreating that page solved the problem, or appears to have done so. Whew!I would welcome your suggestions about how best to handle a log-out page.
I have a plug-in (LoginPress) that enables me to create a really nice-looking version of the standard WP log-in. The problem is that it does not create a standalone page, so I can’t put a shortcode on it (or at least I think I can’t).
What I really want is a page that provides a log-in mechanism if the member’s not logged in and a log-out mechanism if s/he is logged in. At least, I think that’s what I want. Right now, I have a “Membership” menu item with sub items “Join us,” “Member log-in,” and “Member discussions.” It looks like a total kludge.
Any advice, now that I’m back from the brink of invisible forums?
Thank you again!
“Second verse, same as the first,” I’m afraid.
The site took forever to load, but the result looks the same as the screen shot.
Urgh. Perhaps it’s time to order the map to Doom. I sure hope this is fixable somehow.
Well, I added the PHP code without reactivating the plug-in.
Still can’t see anything except header, menu, page title, footer.
However, that makes sense because the forums are designated private in BBPress itself.
Next, I reactivated the plug-in.
No change. Regular “Member” user still can’t see anything.
I’m sending a screen shot to you privately.
Well, isn’t this special. 8-( First, I deactivated bbp Private Groups. The Member user still can’t see the forums. The site says the user’s still logged in.
WTH?
Any suggestions before I reactivate the plug-in and try adding the PHP code to functions.php?
1. If I deactivate the private groups plug-in to test if the problem goes away, will I lose all my settings? I really don’t want to have to recreate them!
2. When you say “add this to your functions file,” I’m assuming you mean the functions.php file in my child theme, yes? I’ll try this first.

In reply to: [bbp style pack] Can’t change Freshness date formatThank you ever so much! This is an awesome plug-in. I’m strapped for cash at the moment, but as soon as I can, I want to contribute.
Resaving my custom permalinks through the WP Dashboard, using the Quick Edit function on the Pages screen, resolved this issue. The .htaccess file was not at issue.
I’m not sure why you suggested I try reading the Using Permalinks page of the codex. I did not misunderstand the process. A WP/theme/plugin update disrupted my MAMP installation, which then ceased to recognize the permalinks until I “refreshed” them.
Thank you for your assistance.
Hello, Kasia:
Look at this screenshot to see the rest of the page editor view, showing that I cannot change anything on that screen. I posted this same screenshot earlier in this thread. Examine it in conjunction with the second screenshot I posted later, showing the sidebar setup for the home page, with a sidebar selected. Second, it displays the replacement status of that sidebar.
Sorry, but I am unable to make this work.
Hi, Bojan:
Thanks for your reply. I will deactivate and remove the plugin.
I wish this would have worked out!
