Thank you for that. No, I am not using Yoast but sqirrly, is that a problem?
I re-indexed and that has improved things dramatically.

tried that but no result. Still only image size, no tag and no value?

in NextGEN Gallery – manage galleries, under each image the menu of action choices:
View | Meta | Edit thumb | Rotate | Publish | Recover | Delete
when I click on ‘Meta’ second from left, I get the following:
Meta Data
Tag Value
Image Width 900
Image Height 600
Alt & Title Text / Description Tags are all filled in but do not show up as above. I wonder if I can correct this in the “editor” and if so where?
