Sorry Zowieguy I can’t help . I’m a complete novice to this stuff and bumbled my way into my fix eventually . I hope you find the solution soon as I know how frustrating it is trying to get support like this . Is there anyway to get support from a wordpress developer or other person so you don’t always have to waite 12hrs or more .

Okay here is what worked for me and I am just going to go with it .
    First new install 3.1.3
then copied “DATA ” only from my old _TCC DB to my new _golf DB for the wp_post table and the wp_comments table to new tables in _golf DB . These also had a different prefix and are now cf_posts and cf_comments .
All this did was make sure that I had my old posts and comments in the new DB along with the new permissions for the admin unchanged . This allows me to add new posts and pages and edit the old ones . I then added anything like pictures in old posts my hand after reloading them in the WP media library .
Not the best solution just one that eventually worked for me . I did try and add wp_options in the same manner and it reverted back to the review for submission page so the problem is definetley in there and I will eventually root it out .
Sorry thats the best I can do for now .
Asmi — I was on 2.7 now using 3.1.3 and tried other previous upgrades before that with the same result . Is it a WP bug or an SQL bug I don’t know yet but it is a BUG .
    Thanks

Same for me KIESS . wordpress upgrades are not much good for me if I can’t keep my old messages . Surely this isn’t a problem that just we three have . Any developers out there that want a challenge . It looks like a nice little challenge for some one .

how did you change the db version in phpadmin . Tried the suffix fix and no joy there either and also tried the link to
    http://beconfused.com/2007/how-to-solve-you-do-not-have-sufficient-permissions-to-access-this-page-in-wordpress/
    without much joy either .
surely this is a bug if you can’t add records to the db easily . Surely everything like transferring posts from old db to new db should be backwards compatable.
    Not very impressed so far

I have the same problems . upgraded to 3.1.2 also asked my host service (IXwebhosting— very helpful ) who could find nothing wrong with the db and done a complete new install and this time only copied the post table from old db to new db and guess what .. problem of being unable to post came back . The problem is in the db but only when you try to keep your old posts .
Surely this must narrow the solution down a lot to someone who really knows wordpress code . I am desperate and very very unhappy with all the supposed solutions people keep repeating on this forum . Anyone out there who can really Help ?

When I point the config file to db callum_chuffer then I just get a blank page . Point it back to callum_chuffer2 and the site comes up .
How can I check if the old db works ? all I want to do is transfer the records from chuffer to chuffer2 – is there an easy way

And NO – nothing seems obvious to me

    Thx

Thanks for the reply but after trying this all that happens is as soon as I change wp-config.php to the old db callum_chuffer and try to use Manage export then I get a 404 Error Not found and I can’t log back into wordpress until the config file is changed back to the new db callum_chuffer2
