I should say I also tried downgrading to the previous version and it still doesn’t work. Now I am wondering if there is an issue with the version of WP, or with my host.

Yes, we have a temp normal index.html page up and some audio etc in there while we build the real wp site.
I was debating about backing everything up, deleting the subdomain and re-adding it back. Reinstalling wp again after that and see how it behaves.
I too have the same issue. I disabled the maintenance mode and when I paste it into facebook status update, its showing as “maintenace mode” next to the title. Did you ever fix this? Is it a search engine crawl thing? I even disabled the maintenance mode plugin and its the same thing. I figure it will just resolve on its own??
